Anyone have any experiences to share? I'm talking specifically about the black box unit similar to the AppleTV and Roku boxes, not the Amazon Fire TV Stick (USB dongle unit)..

My buddy has one, says it's a blue tooth remote.

Up, down, left, right, enter, back, menu, play/pause, skip forward, skip back, voice search.

You can load certain Firetv- ready android apps on it.

what else do you need to know?

Had one client that purchased one and asked us to install. We connected it but it would not update. Failure to update meant it would not work. Just a blank white screen. Called Amazon and they couldn't figure it out. Had client send it back and we installed a Roku.

Appletv you can plug in and restore with iTunes. Not sure with Amazon TV. I do know that it did not work and the a roku did. And I was able to add Roku to his URC remote.

Bought 2 for christmas. One for my sons room to play a few games and one for my main den.
No issues with updating, but issues with streaming to them.
Since my samsung tablet is not running android 4 I cant stream directly to it I need to use the allcast app.
When I stream it buffers terribly, so that part of it is useless. I also downloaded the control app and that doesnt work well.
The remote it comes with works fine. I havent tried to stream anything else yet.
They might go back to amazon.

IR control is done with a USB-IR dongle. Think Media Center PC. We integrated one with a C4 system and it worked fine.

I have it and I like it. Yes, you need this [Link: amazon.com] in order to control it via IR. Imho it provides the best pic quality out of the bunch ( apple tv, roku etc. ) and it also allows you to install XBMC without rooting the device itself . All the streaming you want : HBO GO , Netflix , Hulu , etc. and finally some other cool apps not available on the other devices . We are also using it to stream and view local IP cameras. Not as intuitive as Apple or Roku, but definitely worth a try.
