I tend to think it's good for anyone in our industry to have a decent knowledge of anything technology related for many reasons but for the show to make sense to attend I need there to be a few vendors I need to see.

Show we expect industry presence?

Denon, rti, screen innovations, snap?

I know the big screen manufactures will be there so maybe it's enough just to see 4k roll out heavy. Kef has a small presence so I'll see that and it will be nice to experience Dolby Atmos if anyone is showing it.

Thoughts?

I have a pass and a room but I'm slammed so it really has to be worth it.

My personal opinion: I live on the Strip, I can walk to the convention if I wanted to; haven't been to the show in over 5 years. If you're bored, have nothing better to do or want to party it up on the company dime, have at it. Not my thing though.

You live on the strip? I've never heard of that. I couldn't handle that.

Gambling, booze, and strippers with no rules in walking distance? Yeah could be a problem.

Hey, can you send me a real estate book? ;)

U only live once. I say go for it. Its more relative to retailers... but its still a blast.

Yep, not for everyone that's for sure. There are several hi-rise residential properties on or around the Strip. I like it due to the security since I'm gone quite frequently; no risk of home invasion when you are 220' up.

Fins, don't forget about the right to open carry in Las Vegas without the need for a special permit. Yes, you can walk down the street in Las Vegas with a visible holstered gun. Of course you should expect to be harassed by every cop who sees you but other than emptying your gun there isn't much they can do as long as it's legally registered. Yee-haw! The wild wild West!

If your interest is just what is going on in the CI industry, the answer is no, don't go. There is little to none of that there.

If you have personal interest in all other technologies and want to get a real feel for what the buzz is, vs what is reported, go.

If is of course major hassle to go to such a busy show so if you are not sure, the right answer is not to go.

I am going for 2.5 days to both see the show and connect with my old colleagues.

Many of the companies you mention, if they are at the show at all, will not be in the convention center, but will be somewhere off site, and damn difficult to find.

Still a fun show to visit. You get to see a lot of new stuff, old stuff that's dressed up to appear new, get told things will be released in the next quarter when they might be released in two or three years, if at all.

The big one? You'll get to see a lot of reps talking to each other while you are wanting info, and are being ignored.

I always have fun at CES, like any show it is what you want to make out of things. I will be there either tomorrow or Wednesday for a couple days.

My brother in law is there as the company VP of Sales, pitching some new line of speakers.

Haven't talked to him but I believe he's at the Venetian.

I should have gone. I always get a free place to stay, free food, free shows like Ka, etc, etc.

Also tend to get a bit too much 151 & Kahlua, so maybe it's better I stayed home..

I'm not sure that I should come every year because a lot of "new" has been there before, however, I do get to see the new TV's earlier and all in one place. In the past I got an early view of the 4K & 8K sets.

It's a giggle to go through South Hall and see the Asian manufacturers hawking the same wire that the high end guys in the Venetian are selling as their special wire. And, you can see several vendors selling the same video switch as "our" switch.

And we can get a hint at what the big corporations will throw our way in terms of automation packages.

In todays "Internet" world, its a absolute waste of time and money.

If you are a good company doing good business, the "new" info is NOT new....true.

Many will say, I go to make "contacts", thats another mistake because people are shuffling around so fast its hard to remember where they all work.

Stay on your game through the web and NOT get "tricked" by the big bright lights of a silly trade show.

It is a much larger show this year and somewhat scattered. One looses too much time shuffling between locations. If you spend any time talking with the factory people, you'll likely run short. North Hall is the least interesting for me because it is mostly cars and autosound. But if you want to see the electric cars, North is the place. There is an explosion of Aisian companies (many displaying palm sized Bluetooth speakers), less e-cigarettes. Lots of battery and charger options, 3D printers, drones, robots, health monitoring bracelets, and "smart" outlets. There are also a ton of uninteresting "home automation" schemes that don't seem to integrate with anything useful. They seem to be vehicle to justify monthly fees. Of course. BadDog tools is there.
