I would rather have a 1TB SSD than have to carry one more extra part around. Personally, TIme is money, faster PC with higher screen resolution, good battery life (not huge but helps) and lets devices to setup every time I use it add's up.

As I said, 1-2 Minute savings per typical work day (based on a meager $60 an hour) and it pays for itself. Any more time savings and you're making money on it.

I had no desire for mac either. I want the specs of a maxed out MBP, that's what will work for me. ON a PC would be even better, I can't find one. at least not for less money than the MBP and the Macs have great service (if needed) and reputation.

I've checked with many people using Mac to run Windows that are very happy.

Honestly, peak gaming graphics and movie editing graphics processor isn't as important as a quality higher rez display .

I keep my laptops for about 3 years....isn't that the same as you said. What are you talking about about "if you guys are keeping there a things as long as you do!"?

Not an extra drive. Buy it with the 1th optical and replace it with an add. 512, 1tv, whatever. That gets that machine to 1200 plus whatever hard drive. Mac and a few others mentioned keeping for much longer. In searching tonight. There are some beast mode Lenovo machines with 4k screens and top speccs that are sweet but absolutely get into the mbp range. Which I am not afraid to spend, but I just don't see why I need to. I have been completely satisfied with top of the line consumer grade laptops. I would put the performance of any full featured i7 laptop in the 1500 price range up against the Mac book any day of the week. In fact I would love to compile some Crestron code on whatever I get and some one with a new mbp and see the difference in time. As for extra resolution. When I am working on anything that could benefit from it I am in the office with my 39" 4k. I am not working on touch panel graphics on site. Do I make small changes here and there on site, yes, enough to add $600 no. 1080p is surely fine for me. That being said, in not ruling a 3k to 4k screen out. To be honest I am willing to take a performance hit if I can hold off for the announcement of the new Corel chip in the surface pro series. After playing with one, it is really what I want. It may not deliver as a replacement for my current laptop but in willing to give it a try. I just think for what we are doing on site, in not sure how you could get a better form factor. The only other machine that has piqued my interest is the yoga pro 3. Very nice looking well built machine.

Over a 3 year span, a machine really doesn't have to save that much time to make it a worth while investment.

I would be very curious to see crestron compiling times as well. I believe mulit-core processors don't matter, so you're really looking for the i7 processor with best single core speed.

I've been pretty happy with the Lenovo W520 but the dual drive setup isn't as simple as I'd prefer. it works fine, but would be nice to just have a single SSD and less computer management.

I recently switch from a lifetime of PC ownership to Mac and I don't see myself going back. I still like my Win7 desktop, but the user experience with the MBP is pretty phenomenal. I don't do any gaming, so I can't speak to that aspect, and I am at a point now where I don't really want to be digging around in my computer, so the lack of user-serviceability isn't bugging me as much as I thought it might.

Things I enjoy:
  • Battery Life - Simply amazing
  • No anti-virus program slowing things down
  • The hardware (case, keyboard and trackpad)
  • OSX feels "lighter" than Win7, and great for basic browsing, email, word processing, and photo processing
  • Finder - Used to hate it, now I really enjoy it
  • Parallels - Win7 works great, with only a few issues
Things I dislike:
  • Cannot get MX900 to connect in Parallels, which means I need to get Windows installed in bootcamp to service random older jobs
  • User-serviceability - Not as big of a deal as I thought, but still frustrating
All-in-all I am happy. These things seem to outperform their specs. Not sure if that is because Apple is specifying the hardware and software and optimizes them to work together, but it just works. Right now, that is what I am after, I don't want to tinker or upgrade, I just want it to work for me, and it does.

Sidenote: My wife has a 2012 MBP, and at one point she went 7 months without shutting it down because she couldn't remember where she had put her new InDesign license and didn't want to be logged out of the trial she was using at the time. At the end of 7 months she ended up letting the battery die causing the computer to restart. It was still running just fine. Outside of servers I have never had a Windows machine, especially a laptop, do anything like that.

I can say I would never go back to PC after switching to Mac.
No contest. No Virus.

The Apple gui and ecosystem is far superior to Android and PC nightmares...

Read the article? LOL

I read the comment! What does that have to do with anything. It is a Linux fan boy describing how Linux and Apple OS are superior in an article describing a widespread critical security flaw that is potentially disastrous in Linux and Apple OS machines!!! LOL.

All that crap about the 'SECURITY FLAW" is just that. I personally have used every PC brand we could find, NONE compared to Apples ecosystem. Not trying to start a "my dad can beat up your dad" but Apple is the superior platform from our "real world" use.

The "Linux" fanboy is pointing out how Windows by design is open to exploitation. When people say things like "apple and linux dont have viruses because they have a small market share" they are wrong. It's because the operating systems are built with security in mind.

The article describes 1 security flaw...what about the other 8 million since windows 95 that only affect windows?

Booger said no contest no virus. i simply showed proof of a widespread high risk security flaw. i didn't state anything about who has what when.

I just don't understand how anyone in our business could say that Apple is superior platform for "our" use. we live in a windows world! this whole thread started by the necessity of running windows on an apple machine. i really dont know what the problem is with you guys and windows machines. i have NEVER had a virus. i am a heavy heavy user, do not run any anti virus software. NEVER have bluescreen failures, run full crestron suite, lutron homeworks, radiora2, urc, rti, nuvo, russound, have had composer at times, cad, bidmagic, quickbooks, etc. it all works perfectly fine. i mean i have no reason to say otherwise, i really could care less.

i have no problem whatsoever spending $3k on a laptop if i felt like i was getting anything in return. i have been extremely satisfied with my windows machines. until they let me down i have no reason to swap.

it is very simple to keep viruses off a PC....... stay off the damn porn sites and dont open attachments from strangers!!!
