Client built a 6" deep cabinet in the workout room. Rough in plan was to put a local Blu ray player in 10" cabinet which was already more then pushing it.

So now I am looking for a Unicorn BDP with discrete IR, and line level audio outputs. If there is a unit that will stand up like the xbox, that would work as well.

Anyone see any Unicorns lately?

good luck on the line level outputs, regardless of the super slim requirements.

Note that a typical disc according to my middle atlantic ru tape measure is just under 3 rack units, so I suspect your client will not be happy with your answer.

No way ho zay! The disc is 120mm in diameter. Even if the player would somehow able to be that deep, add a power cord, HDMI cable, Ethernet jack, Toslink cable, and you are well over your 6" limit. I know Samsung use to make some slim players, but even they would be over 6" deep. Wall mount units used to be available as well. But in a shelving unit, it may not be very practical. Can you fit an Xbox One in the shelf standing up? If so, put it in there sideways and tell them to deal with it because the original design would have worked. :)

Or make them use disc to digital and sign up for a Vudu/UV account and throw a Roku in. Or they can rip their movies to their NAS drive, attach them to an iTunes library, and throw in an Apple TV.

Or cut out the back of the shelf/sheetrock to gain another 4"+ of depth. Just cut a slot perfectly sized for the player and cables. It will be trick!

If the space is tall enough, you could fasten the unit to a hinged plank, fold down to load. Once the disc is loaded, the player can run in the vertical position. Hopefully, the remote does not include an Eject button.

Toshiba BDX6400 is the only slot-loader that we have been able to find still in production.

6" deep isn't a "cabinet", unless we're talking for curiosities. It's a bookshelf for softcover books.

Considering a CD is 4.75" deep all by itself, it seems rather improbable to find something that wraps a player around that AND leaves room for cables.

The absolute smallest disc player I've seen are the little USB DVD drives for laptops and such... and even those are 5 5/8" deep, and still need a mini USB cable plugged in.

LG makes a slot load player that should work vertically.
