Never been, at the same time, haven't been away with out the kids in, well, ever. So I was thinking of going with my wife for a few days.
Was wondering who's been? any suggestions? how long to go, where to stay, anything that I should know?
TIA

Buy loads of beads to give out, drink a hurricane or 20, dance nude in the streets like you are Kevin Costner in Dancing with the Wolves.

Drink several Hurricanes and prepare to see some seriously disgusting people flashing their stuff, along with the obligatory drunks throwing up most anywhere.
What fun!

I went to Bourbon Street on a random Saturday night for a Vikings football trip a few years ago. It was nuts! I couldn't even imagine going for actual Mardi Gras! If you are the type of person who would go to Time Square on New Years, then I'd say go for it! It's crazy town U.S.A. there!

I went a few years ago and it was awesome! none of that stuff Kelly mentioned. It was the year the Saints won the superbowl so it was an even bigger celebration!
Call me tomorrow if Brendon's mom doesn't have you tied up again!

Its a blast, depends on how "uptight" you are. If you can have a good time, then you will LOVE it, If you are judgmental about people having fun, then not so much.
Be very aware of the area you are in. DONT stray off the main areas and you will be fine.

Depends on what you want to do. If you are interested in New Orleans for it's food, for it's cultural heritage, it's music scene, Mardi Gras is not your best bet.
If you want to go to a party, that's your ticket.

If you get out of the French Quarter it's very much a family event. The locals avoid the Quarter like the plague. You'll find them there during the day and nights during the week during the off seasons. If you go checkout the stuff going on outside the Quarter to get a real feel for NOLA and Mardi Gras.

I experienced 3 Mardi Gras. The closet thing to it i had ever experienced was when the bulls were winning championships in the 90's. The whole city is out, drinking, dancing and having a great time. Find a good parking spot and say goodbye to your car for a week. You wont be able to drive anywhere. And FYI "Fat Tuesday" is really an 8 or 9 day event. Each day it gets crazier and crazier leading up to the big parade. Rex waiving to me on St.Charles:

Forgot to add...one night we decided to drive somewhere and turned the wrong way and spent about an hour and a half driving 1 block. Another hour heading to the other end of the city before we could cross over to the other side of the parade route. RE: Park your car and say goodbye to it.
