I have a client that wants motorized window treatments that start at the bottom to allow privacy from neighbors but allow them to see out/up. Their windows are 10 ft tall.

I found these while searching.

Anyone know if these work or anything similar?

We have installed Somfy Bottom Up shades.

Have one install that we did at the end of '09, shade is still working without problems today.

For most brands bottom up and skylight shades are the same/similar mechanism, typically listed as tensioned shades.

Lutron's are the easiest I have used. Your max size is 8 ft w x 12 ft tall. There is a frame that encloses the shade on all sides, it also hides the moving parts.

MechoSystems is the opposite. They will build any size in a bottom up system. Even with a full set of engineered drawings, the process is a chore. The guide cables and other moving bits are exposed. It is not "pre-assembled", not even close. But, they do have an answer for every possible need.

The price of a Lutron tensioned/bottom up/skylight shade is about quadruple a regular roller.

I was just in the Crestron showroom earlier this week and one of my designer clients brought that up. Without skipping a beat, the Crestron guy said no problem.

And yes, it's tensioned with wires, ala skylight shades.
