the hitachi 50 HDT50 COMES WITH THE PROCESSOR AS A SEPARATE UNIT. MY PROBLEM IS THAT THE CABLE BETWEEN THE UNIT AND THE PLASMA CAN ONLY GO 33 FEET MAX. I PREWIRED THE BUSINESS WITH THE RACK 50 FEET AWAY. I BOUGHT A 50' DVI CABLE AND A REPEATER TOOVERCOME THE PROBLEM;I ALSO BOUGHT A 50' S-VIDEO CABLE . THIS IS WHERE MY OROBLEM STARTS. THE CABLE IS NOT S-VIDEO ALTHOUGH I LOOKED LIKE ONE. I ASS UMED IT. HITACHI IS TELLING ME THE CABLE CAN ONLY GO 33 FEET. I UNDERSTAND ABOUT DVI BUT THEY CANNOT EXPLAIN THE ADDITIONAL CABLE I FIGURE IT IS SENDING PROGRAM INFO AND AUDIO AND WHATEVER. HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME THING AND IF SO HOW DID YOU FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CABLE HAS A FEW TWISTED SHIELDED RUNS INSIDE AS WELL AS OVER ALL SHIELD

But is the cable 4 pin or 8 pin mini DIN? I have not installed a Hitachi in a while. The last one had a 8 pin mini DIN for RS-232. It would not shock me to learn that they used that port to carry the control/audio signals for the plasma. Have you learned what the pin outs for the mini cable are? You might just be able to get away with exceeding the specification ( as with DVI, the length by spec being limited to 16.4 ft or in the case of RS-232 the length is limited to 60 ft. ) but you would need the correct number of pins and you would need to know if it was straight through or crossover.
Honestly, I do not sell displays that utilize media boxes which is how I "fix" the problem. See if Hitachi will tell you what the pin outs are and then see if it will work at 50 ft, in fact; although you may need to solder your own cable. Soldering mini DINs are such are SO MUCH FUN. An other reason I stopped selling Hitachi.

it is an 8 pin with 2 individual pairs shielded, also a single wire with a shield and 3 wires unshielded. i spoke to libert cable and they told me it is an exclusive cable and they would have to pay mega bucks to get the rights from hitachi.
