My experience has been with bdps570, 580, 590, 3100, 5100, 5200, and maybe a few more. All with control4, urc, or pro control code sets. I will try working on a repeatable pattern when I have time. But it has been intermittent but consistent with all models, firmware versions, and control systems I have tried.

Ok. Here we go.

Known Sony P-ON command BDP-S300 (286 code set)

(protocol = Sony20, device = 26, subdevice = 226, obc = 46)

0000 0066 003f 0000 0060 0019 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01e0 0060 0019 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01e0 0060 0019 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0019

P-On (363 code set)

(protocol = Sony20, device = 26, subdevice = 226, obc = 46)

0000 0066 003f 0000 005f 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01e5 005f 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01e5 005f 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0019 0018 002f 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0019 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018

Here is P-On command from the Sony master Excel Sheet:

protocol = Sony20, device = 26, subdevice = 226, obc = 46

0000 0067 0000 0015 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01E6

There are some terse variations in the code we will let 3FG solve, like the final digit change. However, IRP is a rounding game, so variations occur.

We also know that Sony traditionally uses function 46 for Power On and function 47 for Power On, so we've got to be headed in the right direction.

We can clean the code up, removing the hard coded repeats and simplify to:

P-On

0000 0068 0000 0015 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01E0

Using the same principles, we get this for Eject:

Open/Close

0000 0068 0000 0015 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 01F8

Test them and report!

Could be the 5200 just needs a firmware update to work right.

Although, in the "good old days" Sony was known for occasionally screwing things up, especially with DVD players. I seem to recall the DVP-S500D having no functional discrete codes - although it did actually respond to the main Sony "system off" code properly (anyone ever use that one these days?)

I won't put a unit on display (or a clients) without a firm update. That was step one after plugging it in. And, as multiple installers are having issues, I can't imagine we all "forgot" to firm update.

Yes, but there's at least one solid report that the codes work. Must be something to explain that.

Did you check out the codes to URC 363? That maps to Sony DVD codeset #25, which according to them corresponds to the BDP-S380/S480/S780 and BDP-BX38.

Yes. I learned the code and posted it above. It's the same code the the BDP-S300 and the same code I am using for the 7200 and 5200.

I can personally tell you how these codes worked for the devices while the "one solid report" is someone who doesn't sound really certain. And unless he took the time to actually analyze the hex codes (from his probably already pre-built c4 driver), and I am going to (likely) accurately speculate he did not, then at best, we have snake oil. While we have reports from three other people saying it causes eject.

Okay. I saw 286, missed 363. Although, frankly, there might be 25 URC DVD/BD codesets, but they probably only boil down to 6 or so with actual significant changes.

With that said, this IS the kind of thing that could magically fix with a future firmware update, but it would take someone in Sony to give a rat's ass and get it pushed through.

This isn't a |_|RC Issue.

I've pulled those codes from four different sources, including the TC db, and they are all the same hex commands. The codes are the same.

I don't think anyone is claiming it is a URC issue. The hope was that if the report wasn't "snake oil" (I prefer to think positively), then 363 was perhaps using an alternate codeset with a different device number or function that might have worked on this model. Sony outsources most of these cheaper devices, and sometimes the OEM does not follow their established command protocol specifications as well as they should (witness numerous cheap Sony DVDs without discretes, and the final few years of their VCRs). But since the commands are the same, clearly that was not the case.

With that said, it is still possible that there's an innocent explanation - and that's if it's the recent firmware itself is responsible for breaking the functionality. Wouldn't be the first time there has been a regression. Unless, you can also report that this didn't work prior to updating.

Regardless, shifting back to the original topic, it sounds like the 7200 should be considered the minimum option (which is a bit odd, since it's basically the top model).

Out of curiosity, have you tested the 3200 or 1200?
