I'm in the market for a cheap (sub $100) blu-ray player. In reviewing the URC IR code database, I'm having trouble finding any cheap blu-ray players with discrete power on and off codes. I've reviewed the discrete codes on this site and searched the discrete code hunter forum. I see codes for Sony in the files section and some mentions of codes for some other brands in the discrete hunter forum, however, those posts are for non-current models. Does anyone know if the Sony discretes work on their current cheap models? What about LG or Panasonic models? I know about using a workaround like a play code followed by a stop and a power toggle to simulate discretes, which I will do, if necessary, but I'd like to find the real thing, if possible.

LG 540 b-ray is usually under $100 and has every command available.

Yes, the old Sony discretes work on the new cheap blurays. Their new [Link: store.sony.com]responds to discrete power by ejecting the tray. I found that one out the hard way (with the cabinet door closed). I was really shocked. Sony is probably the most solid and dependable (other than integra who effed everyone with the .3 or .4 series when they changed [and also for having that awful HDMI output failing issue across nearly 4 years of receivers]) for basically never really changing their code set. In case you are wondering, the discretes do work on the 7200 series. Play +Power works for basically almost all receivers for "discrete" (except sharp, but that is another post)

We have intermittent issues with the Sony players ejecting the tray in our c4 systems, with urc, and pro control. Is it the power on command? It does not do it every time. I have not tried hard to find a pattern that is repeatable. Stupidity!

Doesn't the play command turn the Sony Bluray players on?

+1 for Sony. Every Sony I install gets BDP-S480 power on & off codes in URC & C4 systems.

URC code 363 for sony if I remember correct.

Really weird but what do you expect when the customer buys "Cheap"

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like Sony is being used the most, however, if the tray is being opened when one of the discretes (probably on?) is sent, then I'm better off with the LG540 as it would be placed in a cabinet with glass doors.
As for the "Cheap" comment, I agree with it. I'm only looking for a "Cheap" blu-ray player as a stop gap. What I really want is an Oppo player. I'd get one now except I'm reluctant to buy a two year old product. When their new models come out (hopefully early 2015, anyone with any idea as to when?), I will get one.

I will see if I can get that code and post it so I can compare it. I hope you gave me the right number.

I have not tried hard to find a pattern that is repeatable. Stupidity! hahahah. Sorry. did I just trouble shoot your c4 install? Fantastic. We received the 5200 and the 7200 the same day. I put them on display and added them to my 30 Zone |_|RCTC system. Rather than digging through |_|RCcode set, I went to my own known discretes from the BDP-S300 (which |_|RCdoesn't have in the 350 and other code sets. Firing directly out the PIR-1 in front of the unit, the on code ejected the tray for the 5200 and turned on the 7200. Off is off. Let's look at this more scientifically and post the damn hex so we can make sure we are all talking about the same thing. Maybe we can help some other installers through this, as it sounds like it's a systemic problem.
