I've noticed that not all contacts on my phone are on my google contacts on the desktop, though most are. I would like to know if there is a way to SYNC, EXACTLY, the two things. Just now, adding one thing on the computer actually deleted a similar but not exact Contact name!

For example:
I just entered info on my phone for a hardware store. I had only what I think is an obsolete phone number, and many other details. I named this entry Saco.

It did not appear on my computer within a couple of minutes, so on the computer I entered what I know to be the current number, and hours and other details. I named this one Saco X.

I then went back to the phone, which had immediately synced. Sort of. The Saco entry on the phone is gone, replaced by Saco X (which I never entered on the phone). All of the details for both entries are there with a horizontal line separating the two sets of almost identical notes.

Phone is a Samsung Glaxy S4, Computer a ThinkPad running Windows 7.

Any idea how to make ONE list of EVERYTHING?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

When adding a contact on your phone, make sure it's a Google contact. I bet you are saving those contacts on your device.

I just got my phone and am facing the same issue.

My provider is Verizon. My phone is a Samsung Note 4. I have a Google account.

When adding a contact on my phone I can choose the type of contact. In my case the choices are Phone (meaning it is saved in the Verizon cloud) or Google (meaning it is saved in the Google cloud).

Contacts added via the Verizon web site sync to the phone and "Phone" type contacts added via the phone sync to the Verizon web site.

Contacts added via the Google web site sync to the phone and "Google" type contacts added via the phone sync to the Google web site.

There does not appear to be any way to automatically sync from Verizon to Google and vice versa.

I can manually export contacts from the Verizon site and import them into the Google site.

Now that I understand what is going on, my plan is to export all my contacts from Verizion and import them into Google.

Then I will delete all of my Verizon contacts.

Hopefully I will then have just one set of contacts in the Google cloud.

I do not yet know if I can have new contacts made on the phone default to Google.

Hope this helps.

Yes. I have a gmail account, which I state that way just in case that is somehow different from "a Google account."

When adding a contact on my phone I can choose the type of contact. In my case the choices are Phone (meaning it is saved in the Verizon cloud) or Google (meaning it is saved in the Google cloud).

Right. I admit I had not noticed that, just entered. Odd that Saco was eliminated and merged into Saco X!

Contacts added via the Verizon web site sync to the phone and "Phone" type contacts added via the phone sync to the Verizon web site.

Verizon website? I add to the phone's contacts on the phone. That doesn't even require an internet connection. (I LOVE having all the contacts in the phone, while google contacts on the laptop doesn't leave a copy of the contacts actually in the computer.

Contacts added via the Google web site sync to the phone and "Google" type contacts added via the phone sync to the Google web site.

Ok. Makes sense.

There does not appear to be any way to automatically sync from Verizon to Google and vice versa.

Is "sync from Verizon" the contacts that don't have a name? I mean, I can choose Google or not; there's no choice "Verizon." I do have Verizon, however.

I can manually export contacts from the Verizon site and import them into the Google site.

Now that I understand what is going on, my plan is to export all my contacts from Verizion and import them into Google.

I'd do that too.

Then I will delete all of my Verizon contacts.

That too.

I do not yet know if I can have new contacts made on the phone default to Google.

Sounds like they might, but only if somehow "google" always comes up as the checked choice. That is, it would not be a default as such, just the one that always comes up.

Hope this helps.

Gave me something to think about. Thanks!

I have my phone set to "sync" both my Verizon account data and my Google account data - that was the default setting and I have left it that way - for now.

When I create a contact on the phone (of whatever type) it eventually ends up copied out to the Verizon or Google "cloud/website" where it is stored.

The data still exists on the phone.

It is possible, though perhaps not commonly done, to create contacts on the Verizion or Google web site. Since sync is enabled any contacts created on the website will eventually be copied to the phone.

Now I have experienced that the Verizon "cloud" where this data is stored seems to be very flaky.

I went there earlier today to view the contact data and it said I had none.

I went back just now and there was the contact information - and it matched the "Verizon" type contacts that exist on the phone.

I logged out and back in again and tried to view the contact information and the result is now a endless "loading" animation.

This is not a big deal since I am planning on using Google to store my phone data and the Google site seems to work fine.

Still have not found a way to make the type of contact on the phone default to "Google".

On the phone under "Settings/Applications/Contacts/Accounts" there are two listed - Verizon and Google.

I am wondering what would happen if I removed the Verizon account - which appears to be possible.

Perhaps, since this would leave only the Google account, the default contact type would become "Google".

I am a bit reluctant to try this for fear of breaking something. Since Verizon is my phone service provider perhaps the Verizon account needs to be there.

I just don't know.

When I switched from my Motorola x to an iPhone, the sales guy transfered my contacts. I found that every contact was double entered. Each had been saved to google and to the device. Motorola hid the double entry. It's one of the reasons I found I don't like android.

He didn't need to transfer them all.
