I heard a rumor recently that Optoma is going to sell product at a couple of the Big Boxes. I've sold alot of the RD50's and 65's. Does anyone know if the Boxes are going to sell the RPTV line or just data grade. Has anyone seen the Soveriegn line from Optoma. Apparently this line will be exclusive.

I haven't sold Optoma in quite a long time. They have shown that they want to be a big volume company at a low margin. You can just look at their internet presence and tell that they care about volume not quality.

The rumor you heard was true, sorta. Optoma did sell off a bunch of RD50's and RD65's to Costco but they were B-Stock units and most, if not all(cant remember), were 2 -3 model years old. It was about 10,000 units that Costco bought off Optoma to clear out a warehouse. I havent heard anything about a Best Buy alignment but I guess anything is possible in this industry.

The Sovereign line is nice and will be sold only through custom dealers. The main difference I saw in the Sovereign line was the out of the box ISF Calibration. We have a ISF guy on staff and even with his 30+ years in repair and calibration, he said the Sovereign line was amazing. If you knew him you would understand that is a real milestone. He hates anything less than Sony G90 running pure 1080p! I like the look of the Sovereign stuff and have had great success with the Optoma product. Full discrete IR and on the Sovereign line, full bi-directional RS232, has/will made/make integration a breeze. I guess you could say I'm a fan of the product.

Genius...

I would agree!

This IS amazing!

ISF? Out of the box? AFTER UPS, FedEX, DHL, Gorilla Air Freight or the like get ahold of it...your ISF guy will still have his job security...mirrors and DMD's shift and present other problems as easily as CRTs...

and I'd put Runco DTV-1102 and some Barco's against a G-90, and win, any day!

But he's right still about overall CRT...STILL the video king!

I'm a big fan of the G-90, and of course, the RUncos, but the Madrigal/Electromone MP9 is King in my book right now.

I have a Client with that and a Runco 4404 that just looks amazing on his 92" WIdescreen.

Is it just me, or does the name sound too close to Optimus?

Every time I hear the name it reminds me of the Radio Shack Optimus line.

avdude,

You get no arguments out of me on this, I agree 100%.
The biggest thing the Optoma has going for it is the rs232 bi-directional port and full discrete IR. Dont get me wrong, its a nice set and properly calibrated looks amazing with HD material or DVD. That said, its still a television. I personally think its a good set.

BTW, whats up with IP? If you guys need a place to move the site, let me know. I can host it for free and give unlimited space. Yes, I do mean truly unlimited space. Email me if you want.
