ACE hardware have the best parts selection, along with the odd True Value and old store where the people actually know WTF these parts do.

In the LA area there are two Ace hardware stores some 20 miles apart that have EVERY thread under a half inch that you'd ever need. Definitely check them out.

I don't remember seeing an imported TV that used SAE fasteners.

EXACTLY.

In the accessory kit you will find two plastic pieces that look like hockey pucks with a screw coming out. These screw into the top mount points and have the M8 threaded inserts on the other side.

Even after contributing to this thread three years ago, I recently got confused by the same situation. I had two such TVs to mount, used spacers and oddball metric screws on one TV, then realized what the hell the hockey pucks were and used them on the second one.

Actually, that last bit is a lie. I completely forgot about this thread and, in frustration, I READ THE FREAKIN' MANUAL where it told what to do with the pucks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks everyone for chiming in on this thread it was really helpful trying to solve my issue.

In regards to the upper threads on the back of the TV, I found that some #12-24 fasteners went in pretty well and were able to get the job done. So if anyone has lost their adapters, I used an 1.25" long #12-24 pan head machine screw to get the job done.

This thread certainly old but helpful. I tried machine screws as noted by stratigunds but was able to pull them out when tightening. The original parts are on crazy forever back order. So, I went for it. I ran a 6m x 1.0 tap through the upper two mount holes. I put in some 6m x 1.0 bolts with spacers and was able to tighten without pulling out. TV been up all weekend.

Note that your results could vary. I was prepared to drill out and install a thread insert if this trick failed. Certainly a bit of risk involved.

I just ran across this thread again and I want to offer a suggestion. When you mount a TV, keep all the screws and spacers and washers and stuff like that there. Keep saving them until you have a good twenty pounds of them, because they WILL come in handy at some point.

I carry a box of these with me to all TV mounting jobs.

How to label them? Just slap the word METRIC on the container, because ALL screws I've EVER run across with TV mounts are metric.

Will they be useful? Over the years I collected about forty pounds of these things and shipped half of them over to Saudi Arabia when I was working on a couple of home theaters over there. It turns out that there was no store in their capital city that had as good and/or as thorough a selection of metric hardware as any one of the four containers of spare TV mount bolts etc that I sent over there.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Just FYI: most current larger Samsung screens use 8mm 1.25 x 25mm screws. Forget about trying to get them at HD or Lowes, you will be lucky to find one or two. Go to Ace Hardware. Every one I have gone to has had an amazing selection of nuts and bolts, and unlike the big boys, the selection is kept in good order.
