Do these even exist now? The smallest LG or Samsung i can find online (manufacturers websites) is 2.0".

UN40H5500 From Amazon's site:

Dimensions (W x H x D): TV without stand: 35.7'' x 21'' x 1.9'', TV with stand: 35.7'' x 22.8'' x 7.7''

Can't confirm it on Samsungs site.

Problem with samsung's specs is that they don't include the power cord in the dimensions. The tv may be 1.9" but it's 3" with the power cord sticking out of the back.

I know we all hate vizio, but at least all of their connections come out at right angles.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

LG 40UB8000 1.9" depth - not sure if this is available yet

2012 Samsung UN40ES6100 40-Inch 1080p 240 CMR Slim LED HDTV (Black) - Old, but you can probably find one - 1.8" or 1.2" depth (probably because of the power cord) (I found 1 spec that says it is 30.7 mm)

Not sure why there are no small OLEDs

Power cord isn't an issue for me. The TV will be mounted in motorized lift that has plenty of depth. The issue is that the area where the TV exists is shallow and can't be increased due to custom cabinetry.

Can you fit a 42"....or to be accurate, can you fit a TV 38 9/16"W x 24 5/16"H? If so, the next question is whether 1.5" is literally your absolute limit for TV depth. And theeeeen, if you answered yes to both of the above, then the next question is whether you can still buy a Hitachi LE42S606 from an internet seller anywhere near trustworthy. 1 7/16" deep according to the specs.

I assume the cabinet maker was not involved in the A/V design process?

Hitachi - why not a Vizio then?

My comment is slightly tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, Hitachi is such a minor player in flat panels, why would you even consider them?

We sell Hitachi and find them pretty good.

not sure why "minor player" would = bad TV.
