I have a client who saw the Bose Free Space speakers and wants me to provide and install them. I always have done rock speakers in the past because they seemed to sound way better than the green, plastic ones that have to be buried (excluding James and the other higher end speakers with the optional subwoofer that gets buried, also) when installed.

Anyone have a good/bad experience with the Bose?

Thx.

I have a ton of them out in the wild, not a single issue. Not many installations in the last couple of years though, they have their place.

They sound ok for what they are, if you can get a dsp on them and spend some time tweaking them you can get them to sound good.ive ran them with transformers and driven by CDi's.

Rock speakers suck.

I think your best bet is to actually go with JBL control series mounted on an aluminum post, that will sound much better then any rock and last longer. IMO when placed right they blend in better then fake rocks too.

Ah, but do they suck more or less than the Bose? ;)

Thx for the JBL tip.

I've installed numerous amounts of the Bose as well. Mainly because they are spec'd on large commercial jobs for patios, etc.

You can get them to sound good, especially using a CDi amp.

But I'd agree on the JBL's, that's what I'd install if I had the choice.

You know, I listened to some Snap 8" rocks we installed on a job a little over a year and a half ago on Friday. I have to say they surprise me everytime I hear them. They really did sound pretty good. Very good actually for what they are. There were 4 of them fed off their own amp. Not saying they are better than the JBL setup, I know thats not the case, but for what they are, they sounded great.

I like the Snaps but unfortunately they have been out of the 8" rocks since July or earlier. I sold 6 to a client and now he is looking at the Bose and other solutions.
The other solutions out there are either double the Snap price or don't protect their distribution network if you know what I mean...

Depends on budget but if you cant go the jbl route the sonance rocks are a little more than episode and sound pretty good for a rock speaker.
The jbl with a crown amp is killer
