Client requested something like a Play 3/5 as an endpoint solution for TV audio. The extra Sonos features would have been killer brownie points.
TV cannot have a Playbar for aesthetic reasons. Cable box is in central rack and has both optical and analog out. WLAN is available for the Connect. Problem is supposedly from the Line In of a Connect to a wireless Play 3/5 there is a 17ms delay in the audio. I don't know what this would sound like but can't afford to test it.
Have any of you tried this with Heos? From what I understand their preamps have optical ins. Could that get it closer?

The HEOS Amp and link (preamp) have virtually zero delay if the source is connected directly to the playback device. If you connect a TV to a link or amp and playback on another non connected device (speaker or other link or amp) there is a substantial buffering delay.

For the record, 17ms is approximately half a video frame...That'll be completely acceptable from a perceived synchronization standpoint.
