New HR-44 based system, listening directly from the HR-44 via HDMI into Marantz AV7701. Audio for on-demand content drops/mutes and DD flag disappears from AVR every 5 seconds or so. Mutliple channels and content tested. No drop-out issues from normal satellite content.

Pedestrian forum traffic indicates this to be a widespread problem that showed up in the August timeframe. No useful responses from DirecTV. Anyone experiencing this and/or know if a fix is in the works?

TIA

What happens if you let the content "download" and give it a 20 minute head start? I had similar issues watching old Sopranos through the HBO content. I actually lost everything, like a buffering issue. I think the box even gave me a message to let it finish loading completely, then watch it. Maybe a separate issue ....

I have a client complaining about dropouts on everything. It does not matter if it is thru a AVR, or a direct connection.

Your problem sounds like an EDID failure, you know the Data that asks all of the questions (like: do you want audio and if so what kind).

DirecTV does not employ EDID data on most channels (really it is only currently used on HBO/PPV channels).

The solution to your audio dropouts is most likely our (Ethereal) HDM-JR, this needs to be placed at the output of the DirecTV unit.
