I have an electrician that needs some insight into the world of buzzing folks in from apartments.

What systems are out there?
Are there any that allow folks to use Cell phones instead of land lines?

Door king. Not sure if they have what you're looking for exactly, but they're certainly a big player in that market.

Depends on what your client needs. Viking Electronics gives you the ability to do lots of apartments. My favorite supplier can assist. Without knowing more, I'd say contact them.

There are supposed to be at least 216 units but this across multiple buildings.

Cool.

Do you envision each building having a keypad at the front door so that guests can select a unit and dial it?

yup.

Fred that is exactly the concept discussed. I guess thee big question from the GC was do they have something with Cellular support as many don't have land lines. Can you just make a local "network" of hardline phones and door stations>

This is the sort of thing that should be handled by a voice consult, versus back and forth on a message board.

Please, if you are interested, contact me.

The systems I've seen open a dial tone, then dial a phone number. The fact of the number being cellular or land line is irrelevant because it's using the phone company to dial an actual phone number.

Does this seem as obvious now that I've said it, as it does to me? Think about whether this means the electrician might be over his head conceptually; if so, he'll need real nuts and bolts help from the manufacturer.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
