Rumor is that they're having some problems. Anyone care to elaborate?

Ahem...

We have dropped M&K due to their...ahem (no pun intended) "problems"

we can't get a straight answer...but it's taking an AVERAGE of 6-8 weeks to get obscure product...and more for the popular stuff...we ordered a subwoofer rack for displaying some gear above their subs...9 months ago...we ordered speakers stands for LCR's with standard length pipe and bases, took 4 months to get...

granted...we've scaled back so far that we are no longer priority, but this was because of continued problems with product availability.

M&K, once one of our biggest speaker lines (60% probably) is now a distant memory because of whatever problems they've had.

Also, our rep has been atrocious...in fact, we've had four DIFFERENT people (same REP firm) in the last 18 months...

On the last visit from our MK rep, he didn't even know we were direct with MK, said our numbers were down (AFTER we told him we WERE direct), and had no clue that we were also direct with Niles (also dropped them recently) and Yamaha...

part of this issue MAY be some of their rep firms...we'll see!

we certainly have had our problems with our rep firm here....

bad orders, missed orders, backordered products that we haven't been advised of, jobs scheduled with no product...etc....

I'm not sure that the problem is entirely with your rep firm. What you elaborated on is pretty much what I've been hearing; that they can't ship product and it appears to be financially related on their part.

I'm sorry to hear it though. They've consistently built a pretty darned good product over the years. I'd hate to see them gobbled up by the likes of a Harmon, Jensen, etc.

agreed

some of the very best

LucasFilm and THX, along with most of Hollywood, use them for a reason!

rather see them go down in flames than see them gobbled by the wrong entities...be careful about Harmon though...they DO have Lexicon, JBL Synthesis, etc...

Agreed, and Levinson too for that matter.

I'd just hate to see them loose their small company identity.

We were M&K dealers for years and finally got tired of them not shipping product, raising prices while cutting performance, and not keeping up with the architectural market. We dumped them about 9 months ago and brought in Klipsch. We had been reluctant to bring in Klipsch because the chain stores carry it, but so far the problems have been minimal. From what I have heard, a lot of dealers have done the same thing because the new Klipsch THX system is one of the few decent replacements for the S-150 system. It's kind of a shame to see that company so mis-managed. I doubt that they will be around much longer unless they have a major epiphany and get Ken Kriesel out of the helm.

I have just signed up with them. The rep firm in my area deals with both M&K and KEF. I asked them about availability of product, and they said that no problem on 750 and K Series, and small delay in 150. I asked them if I should look at KEF instead, and they said stay with M&K. I hope that I don't get burned. :-0

They've gotten alot better over the last 6-9 months. Still back-orders out the wazzoo, but now more like 1-3 weeks, not 6-??? weeks.

Agree that the S-150 are World-Class, but many of the more affordable units are not my cup-o-tea (K-series, LCR-55, LCR-750)
