Seems to be getting increasingly difficult to find a mid-range 48-50" LCD with a matte screen. Doesn't help that the manufacturers rarely if ever tell you what kind of filter they're using.

Any suggestions?

Some of the samsung (H6400 for instance) are 'semi-gloss'. Also look into LG, they may still make some that are semi-gloss/matte.

Hmm, looking at the 50" H6400, it does say "Ultra Clear Panel: No", while other models indicate "Yes". Is that their version of semi-gloss? I've always hated trying to find things on Samsung's site... you get an index of hundreds of models with no idea what's newer or what major differences there are.

Also look into LG, they may still make some that are semi-gloss/matte.

Yeah, having difficulty telling with them, although I know they HAVE made them. For example, was looking at the 49UB8500, and can't tell what it is... but from closely looking at some YT videos, does seem that it's at minimum semi-gloss. Will probably have to find one in person.

Hmm, pricey. You think they're worth it?

well the X850s are 4k so im not sure if that would fit your bill, but it does look great with directv so far. client is very happy. he loves the matte screen, just went from a runco 65 plasma to the 70" XBR. im new to the sony gear as we wrote them off years ago. my only grip on this tv is non-detachable power cord. im not sure what other models in their line up have the matte finish

Well, looks like I'm trying the X850B. Anyone integrated one of these? Anything to watch for - does the IR in on the back work?

Sharp has the motheye technology, but AFAIK, they only sell it in Japan. :(
