Has anyone tried the new wifi option for sonos? I just set it up on my demo system in the office, but haven't actually tried it yet. (I'm hanging out at the gun shop two doors down from our shop )

No and i think its a mistake not to use a bridge unless there is a robust AP/network system in place.

My helper did the beta and even though it worked it seemed to crash after an hour or if he chose some of his personal music. Could be because it was in beta but it was only a few weeks ago.

I posted on CEPro in response to the article expressing my concern with it as well. One of the main things that has set Sonos apart is Sonosnet. It's damn reliable. Hopefully the Wifi works well, but nobody else has been able to duplicate Sonos' success with a wifi only piece, so wondering if Sonos will be able to do it.

I don't foresee 'installs' being setup WiFi.
$50 is cheap insurance to keep all that traffic off the house APs.

Im failing to see how this makes an install easier (as the article claims). Now I didnt set up a new system, so maybe that makes a difference. But it seems you have to still connect a unit to a wired connection temporarily, then type in the wifi password. Once connected, you can disconnect the wired connection.

But how is this easier and faster than push a button? it seems like they caved to the average consumer requests of "but why cant I just use wifi instead of having to spend $50"

If you read any reviews of Sonos on CNET, Amazon, Wired, AVS, and other tech blogs, everyone complains about the Bridge. The people reviewing Sonos on these sites are idiots. They don't understand Mesh Technology. I will be putting the Boost in on all of my installs.

Be careful, could be a latency issue with soundbar/sub rear speakers if connecting over wifi

For the price of the bridge, im still keeping a couple on the truck

After playing with this for a couple hours, I haven't had any problems. I could see where this will increase sales for single speaker systems, and will probably be ok in that setting. But I wouldn't want to stream 4 different pandora channels to different zones using only wifi

For the limited time that a $50 Bridge is still an option. Sonos has made it pretty clear that the Bridge is being phased out and the "replacement" will be $100.

We hardwire whenever possible, pretty much the only things that don't get that are the Play5:3:1

Sonos has talented engineers though, so maybe this will be ok.

Sonos states on the web site where they talk about the new WiFi approach that subs/rear speakers will need SonosNet.

Reminds me of something I was just reading in another sub.

I thought I remembered this from somewhere and hearing, even from Sonos, that their bridge was ....... sub-par.

I don't think so. You have to connect it to the router first so you can find it on the app and configure the wifi.
