I am looking into getting a mac book. Currently I am a PC user.
My question is will software like URC Software, D-tools, RTI, C4 all work without running parrells?

in most cases- NO

but i have been using a Mac as my main PC for programming for almost 5 years now, first with VM Fussion Ware and now with Parallels.

There are a few little quirks with networking modes and having to switch for different programs but its not bad at all.

You could partition the hard drive and use BootCamp with a copy of Windows 7 / 8 to run those applications with Windows as primary operating system.

Or you'll need Parallels or VMWare Fusion or some other virtual machine software.

Both Parallels and Fusion can also "adopt" a BootCamp partition, so if you start out that way, but get tired of having to reboot to switch operating systems, you won't have to reinstall Windows from scratch.

All macs come with ability for loading windows on them. Without special software. It's bootcamp.

I run windows 7 on My Mac

90% of time just in Mac OS. But for any programming. Rti c4 etc I just boot into windows 7

Best windows machine I have ever had

Yes of course they work. Boot directly into windows and it's essentially a windows PC at that point, except better ;-)

We've been running 100% Mac for years programming everything from Crestron to RTI to Lutron to URC to...well, you get the point.

None of the control system software you mentioned has MAC compatible versions.

I was given a MacBook Pro with VMWare, so far one of the more unstable PC's I have ever had. VMWare crashes the computer on a regular basis. Twice last week alone... Working with Crestron and URC has been difficult to say the least. At times impossible. I see some AMX support on the horizon I am not looking forward to working with.

But it is light and the battery works very well.

Same here. Slow, crashing. It's vmware. With bootcamp it will be the best Windows Machine you have ever owned. But where the hell do we buy a copy of windows 7 to start fresh with? :/

Hmmm,

Are you guys saying that I should install Windows 7 on my MBP before putting it up for sale? Currently it's installed via VMware. Which I have no problems with it installed on my Mac Mini.
