None of this logic, yours or that of your assumed opponent, makes any sense.

How about this:

Gun and alcohol are the same because _____

"Compare and contrast guns and alcohol".

He could have but it's not an argument, it's a fallacy that really only acts to end an argument.

agree, never said it would have been a valid point. But the statistics would have supported it at least. My post was more due to the fact that it gets annoying when people misinterpret the information (i.e. like in this case where there is a few more deaths by car accidents than guns and so it becomes drunk driving as if drunk driving is the only cause of car deaths).

Which brings up an interesting point... cars and alchohal are about as bad as guns and alchohal...

Sorry I should've just said alcohol and left the drunk driving part off.

From our good friends at the CDC.

Number of alcohol-induced deaths, excluding accidents and homicides: 26,654

[Link: cdc.gov]

I don't want to take your alcohol away so don't get excited, I'm just saying that if logic dictates that guns are bad because they kill 11 to 12 thousand people. Then the same logic would then also apply that alcohol is twice as bad. Or is your "guns are bad" logic now flawed?

no, did you actually look at the report

go to table 11

Alcohol-induced deaths 8.6
Injury by firearms 10.4

or 12

Alcohol-induced deaths 26,654

Injury by firearms 32,351

deaths by firearms beats alcohol by a bit

I agree that maybe a 9 yo should not be given an Uzi, but your original post implied "guns", which I interpreted as guns in general, hence my reply.

I am not arguing that Uzis should be given to 9 year olds...except Texans, which can be given to as young as 4. (it's in their DNA to handle guns at a younger age)

Wow FP, something tells me that you don't like Texans......... 8>)

I have been a responsible gun owner most of my life. The first thing that I taught my boys is, that you clear a gun when you first touch it, even if the person that handed it to you cleared it. The next thing is that even if it is clear, ALWAYS treat it as if it was loaded. Both of my boys went through the Hunters Safety Course. Even with training, accidents can happen. Allowing someone at a young age to handle a firearm of that power and capacity, was in my view, unprofessional. I agree with Stan, a BB gun or a .22 is where you start. In a protected environment, with the proper instruction, you will reduce the risk of accidental injury. Will you completely stop it? Probably not. I have been around several accidental discharges that were gun malfunctions. It was scary to say the least. We usually load and charge one gun at a time with everyone aware of what is going on.

The conversation of firearms will always be hotly contested. It is a subject of fierce debate. Those of us for them cannot see the view of those against, same as politics.

Taking ALL guns away will only lead to more bloodshed, as many will defend that right to the death.

I like to hunt, so I will always have firearms. Yes, I have guns that are for protection. I could not see myself defenseless against some A hole trying to break in my house or touch one of my girls.

Being from Texas, I may just have that right longer than some.........

Taking ALL guns away

for me that is where the big issue lies. There is a big difference between " all guns should be illegal and , to be on topic, "anyone under 18 should not be allowed to handle an automatic weapon". The problem is that no matter what people say to some gun owners all they hear is "blah , blah, blah we want to take your guns away, blah, blah, blah"

taking all guns away is a liberal pipe dream......but when liberals talk guns, it is about taking them away......nothing more nothing less....don't fool yourself.

I would like to see how they wet their pants when someone breaks in their home and 911 puts them on hold.......lol. have a good time cleaning up the mess!

That is the problem. When you suggest that a "9 year old should not be able to touch a firearm" some people hear "we are coming to take your freedom and imprison your family in a socialism muslin communist atheist work camp".

There it is, right there. You can't have a rational conversation about guns with so many people so damned paranoid and fearful.

That's why they overcompensate by being ammosexual and hurr durr durr.

Any conversation about guns = they're coming for our guns. It's a world view based in fear. Tell me more about liberal pantywaists peeing their pants, I see right through it.

Thank you for demonstrating what millions of dollars of paranoid PR has paid for. Poor thing.

Nothing funnier than somebody spouting paranoia telling some else to 'wake up.'
