What makes it more news worthy is the video.

I think you're probably right to say so, but that is its own problem.

The fact that there's a video DOES NOT make it any more newsworthy, but it is judged as so. Really: why is a story more worthy of being reported if there's film (tape, whatever) of it? All the facts are the same. The only things different are our reactions, which do not matter one tiny bit, and the ratings of the news service that plays the video.

We react so strongly to moving pictures that we'll get unreasonably upset over this while not reacting to thousands of people being killed in Africa over the years... where there aren't any videos. Internationally, a@@holes who want to get away with killing people keep the cameras away.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

FP I do agree that if guns are present people handling them need to be trained. IMHO 8-9 year olds is too young for them to be handling a deadly weapon especially an UZI. At that age their respect of guns should be don't touch and get a grown up.

Both of these incidents happened with trained professionals in proper areas set up for gun safety. This wasn't the case where someone left a weapon where kids found it and tried to play with it. The factor that is the same in both cases is the kids are very young. The physical and developmental immaturity at those ages is what makes giving them a deadly weapon irresponsible. It is tragic and could have been avoided.

My heart goes out to all the families involved.

Kicking AZ is picking low hanging fruit. It is a pretty F'ed up state. But this incident could have happened in any number of states....like TX ;)

Why is it F'ed?

The video doesn't make the story more "newsworthy". It makes the story more interesting to the rubber necking types who like to watch car crashes and slowly roll by trying to get a glimpse of the carnage. The video makes it easier for this story to reach the masses who are too lazy to read a 2 paragraph article. The video also makes it harder for the media to spin the story.

At 9 years old you can't buy cigarettes, alcohol, lottery tickets, plane tickets, drive a car etc but some f'n moron thought it would be a good idea to hand you a firearm...an UZI !?!?

Sorry but this is a simple case of not being able to fix stupid. Natural selection is alive and well. The good news is that she is a white girl in Arizona so there will be no charges...whew...

Thats easy for you say because you're a racist. That shouldn't get the thread locked, just stating the obvious.

I don't really care for backwards thinking. The idea of "race" was conjured up by sad little men who needed a way to justify their horrific behavior. Everyone on the planet is the same...although current DNA science shows that most Northern Europeans have a larger percentage of Neanderthal DNA vs those south of the equator.

I know I'll raise some hackles here, but I think part of the interest in this story is, the old question of why do UZI's exist for the general public, anyways?

In Washington state they are attemping to pass stricter laws for people buying and selling guns on Craigslist etc. - and not having to consent to background checks. There are a lot of mentally ill people out there (I see them every morning, downtown) and to imagine some of these people posessing an UZI or any gun for that matter gives me the chills.

The interest in the news story about this little girl, is that a lot of people thought it was irresponsable for her to be shooting such a powerful wweapon vs. lets say a .22 - which to a kid would still be a thrill. A few years ago a woman at a shooting range in Bellevue was shooting a 45 handgun and during one of the recoils shot her instructor. I don't think a little kid should be firing off a powerful gun... When I was a kid I had a .22 rifle, I didn't need anything beefer for target practice.

Another reason is with all of the shootings in this country ( I swear every day someone is shot, even around here in "Libtard" Seattle probably two or three a night on the news)... is why couldn't the parents of that little girl been entertaining her with something that didn't involve guns?

I'll put on my flamesuit now.

How are you that drunk so early in the day. Even with the time difference from Pacific to Eastern it's still not even happy hour in the east yet.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that his statements should not get the thread locked, just because he is stating the obvious? Or are you putting forth the preposterous idea that he is being racist by saying that there will be no charges because a 9 year old white girl is involved?

Uzis exist so that 9 year old girls can defend their freedoms.

In Washington state they are attemping to pass stricter laws for people buying and selling guns on Craigslist etc. - and not having to consent to background checks. Mentally ill people aren't who you need to worry about. It's their "law abiding" relatives who are careless with their firearms.

A grown woman at a shooting range = tragic mistake.
A 9 year old with an Uzi = Moron parent & negligent instructor.

Another reason is with all of the shootings in this country ( I swear every day someone is shot, even around here in "Libtard" Seattle probably two or three a night on the news)... is why couldn't the parents of that little girl been entertaining her with something that didn't involve guns?

Let's not go nuts here. Leave that for the FAUX news meme generators. Gang rivals, innocent bystanders shot by criminals has happened since the Native Americans still controlled the west. It will always happen. Some people are criminals for a variety of reasons. This reality, while equally tragic...has nothing to do with a "responsible" parent signing off on a supposed trained professional handing a 9 year old an Uzi.

I'll put on my flamesuit now.

Ranger likes to yell "racist" like Al Sharpton. To help him out...

Being racist is shooting a black girl for knocking on your door.

Being racist is for shooting a black man who is seeking the help of police after being involved in a traffic accident.

Pointing out that a 9 year old girl is less likely to be "charged as an adult because its an adult crime" because she is white is called living in reality.
