It is all over all the major news networks. Similar episode happened here with an 8 y/o that shot himself with an UZI on a range where you pay to try these weapons.

I'm not against guns by any means but giving kids of this age guns seems irresponsible to me on both the parents and the organizations sponsoring these shootings.

You're trying to imply that the whole state is responsible for the decisions/actions of a few people? By that logic, you should say the same about every state where someone accidentally shoots another person.

@ BobL -Quite the contrary, IF you're going to have guns around and you have kids, I think it is critical that you get them continued training all their young lives, so they know safety procedures and learn to respect guns....and not look at them as a novelty item. But it must always be accomplished under tight and strict adult supervision...ALWAYS. And the adult must also be adept and intimately familiar with all safety procedures.

Even given that, there are sometimes going to be accidents. You roll the dice enough you will eventually get a bad roll. But if all safety precautions and education are practiced, bad rolls are kept to a minimum.

If you aren't going to be familiar with guns and educated, then you shouldn't even have one, let alone many.

Kicking AZ is picking low hanging fruit. It is a pretty F'ed up state. But this incident could have happened in any number of states....like TX ;)

Maybe her dad should have been standing there- he's the one who took her to that place, right?

I'm all for kids learning guns, but it were a mistake to give a 9yr old a full auto firearm.

A kid that young needs to be training with a bolt action single shot firearm. Both dad and the instructor were idiots, kinda hard to believe a range would allow a preteen with a machine gun.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

At 9 years old you can't buy cigarettes, alcohol, lottery tickets, plane tickets, drive a car etc but some f'n moron thought it would be a good idea to hand you a firearm...an UZI !?!?

Sorry but this is a simple case of not being able to fix stupid. Natural selection is alive and well. The good news is that she is a white girl in Arizona so there will be no charges...whew...

I wonder which city has the honor of claiming the accidental shooting death? We don't need any more negative statistics here.

One such death in October 2008 and another in August 2014. Almost six years apart. I'm sure Mac would have told us about a more recent shooting if he had found one.

While no such death is acceptable, the very reason that this is news is that it is so unbelievably rare.

We've watched enough TV cop shows to have this subconscious belief that stuff like this happens every week. After all, they have a new show every week, right?

IT IS RARE. It is deplorable. It is horrible. But it is news because it is news, and thank God for that. Let's not react to either story without also reacting to the rarity of them. Let's not call for new gun laws or other things to avoid the two times in six years in a nation of three hundred million people that such things happened. You want to lobby to outlaw something dangerous, outlaw automobiles! Go nuts over peanuts being available to the general public!

I just located a story of a death caused by a slippery sidewalk. That makes sidewalks only half as dangerous as Uzis, and you don't even have to have supervision to use a sidewalk!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

More people were killed by cows on the farm every year. 22 deaths per year
Still a horrible accident.
What makes it more news worthy is the video.

At the Gun Range over here my kids were allowed to shoot AR-15s.
The clip had 1 bullet. They were in a seated position and had the gun rest had side arms that would keep the gun from straying.

Any normal shooter knows the gun rises every bullet and she had not enough strength to hold it down.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.
