I have a system that has Abus indoors and an old niles audio system for outdoor zones.
I have just finished all of the video zones and lighting. Now on to audio.

We have run wire and will be adding speakers around the pool area.
The Abus zones only have Cat5 in and 16/2 to the speakers.
The Niles zones only have 16/4 in and 16/2 to the speakers.

Control system is C4

Here's what I'm thinking.
We have touch screens and remotes in every prudent location. We only need a second zone so I'm thinking we use zone two line level outs on the denon and split that to the Abus and a 70V amp. (transformers not a problem)
We would then replace the 3 niles keypads with VCs and leave the 10 Russound ABUS keypads in place.
At the pool we will add 8 70v landscape speakers and a VC.
I would like volume control for the 70V available on the touchscreens and Ipads but I'm not finding a solution for this.
Maybe a 70V amp (prefer Crown) with IR controllable volume I can write a driver for? Any Ideas on an amp or another work around?

Maybe im not following, which denon are you using? dont most of them over 23xx line have 2 zone(s) out? abus system on 2nd zone and 3rd zone via pre-out and into a cleanbox into CDi 1000

Maybe, I haven't looked but that's not a big deal. (Denon X3000)

Either way, I am using line out to the 70v and would like volume control on the interface.

There is nothing different about controlling volume on a 70v system vs. a traditional 4/8 ohm system. You are just controlling the line level going to the amp.

Run Zone 2 out of the Denon into whatever 70v amp you choose and control the zone 2 volume on the Denon via C4.

edit: just caught that you want to Run the Russound off the same output....

What C4 Processor are you using? You might want to split the Zone 2 output to the the Abus and the C4. Then you can an audio out of the C4 to control volume to the 70v amp.

Interesting.
Its an HC-800 and I was planning to split the zone 2 output to the abus and an amp.
Are you saying if I put the HC-800 in between the zone 2 outs and the amp that the HC-800 will handle the volume control in line rather than trying to rely on the amp?
If that's the case I am set!
Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, that is correct.
You will have the Zone2 line-output from the Denon set to fixed.
Because the ABUS does it's own volume, if you change the volume on the Denon's Zone2 output for an amp hooked up straight, that will screw with the ABUS.
So fixed output to ABUS and C4, and each control their own volume in the subsystem.

Thanks Brad,
I wasnt aware that the 800 would handle line level volume. This makes things easy.

Hmmm... wait!
I'm not a C4 dealer and I just looked at the connections on the back of the HC-800. I'm assuming that it does based off what I see and what was posted by someone else. You know what they say about ass-u-me.
Please double check that the HC-800 does indeed do this. I couldn't find a manual online to read - all the .pdf's posted were giving me errors.

Confirmed. the HC800 has a Line In AND a line out. You will need to set the Audio endpoint for the outdoor zone to the HC800 and then the 800 will do Volume..

One thing you might need to keep in mind. THe 800 is going to A/D then D/A the audio... I Think..... so the outdoor zone will be delayed from the Abus Speakers.

Confirm with C4 that even if the 800 is the only end point it still digitizes the audio. Pretty sure it will. I know you can set SPeakerpoints to Skip these steps.. I dont think you can on an HC800.

Impaqt,
That's awesome bro and I'm not worried about an outdoor delay.
Lets just say I'm ecstatic that the HC-800 is going to handle the volume control. That makes things easy.

Brad, I couldn't find anything in the manuals or on the knowledge base so don't feel bad.

yeah, the HC800 can actually run 4 Discrete outputs. I've used the analogs to add an extra zone a couple times in jobs.

There is 2 analog outs in fact. You might even want to Run the Zone 2 into the 800 and then use Out 1 for abus and out 2 for Outdoor. that way, you could actually turn on the outdoor without the abus and visa versa. (Would also fix the delay)
