I have a client that has retro rings for the sn*pav 500 series 6.5 inch thin speakers. I want to install a different brand of speaker that has a cutout dimension of 7 5/8. On the site it looks like the retro ring is 7.625 which makes no sense, because the sn*p speaker requires a 7.7 opening. For those of you that install the sn*p stuff, can anyone tell me the exact dimensions of the retro ring, and if you think a speaker with a cutout dimension of 7 5/8 will fit? Thanks a lot. I'm going crazy trying to find out.

I can tell you this:

Do not trust what snap lists on their site for specs if you need to be accurate with those speaker brackets.

I had a client back in approx. october, did a whole house project...audio/video/surveillance cameras/network....with their budget they cut back a little on the speakers and we pre wired using episode brackets, intending to use the episode 8" thin bezel speakers.

Comes time for phase 2 and the client has decided he wants to go with Triad. I check specs and check them twice, the Triad in ceiling silver series will be a perfect fit. I order the Triad's, time comes to install and they go right through the bracket/ceiling.
WTF.... turns out the specs listed on snap's site were the wrong specs, they listed them smaller than they actually are!

I will look and see if I have any leftover 6.5" episode brackets...if I do i'll get a measurement

Thanks Z. I had a feeling that was the case. Let me know what you come up with.

it's listed on the site as
10" OD (the entire bracket round side to round side, not the flat side.
7-5/8" ID

Actual measurements are about 1/8" smaller than that

Thats about the STUPIDEST measurement as "OD" isnt it? Geesh.

1/16th smaller on ID than stated on web. It should be EXACTLY right on the specs but its not. They need to fix it.

Why are you asking for the dimension for "retro rings"? The retro ring should be a little piece of cardboard that comes with the speaker called a "template". You place the cardboard circle template on the wall/ceiling, trace it with a pencil, cut out the material where you traced the line, connect the wiring to the speaker, and install speaker with a screwdriver. ?
Always Second Best...

Yeah, thats the way I took it also.
On this one at least its close....on the ones thst got me it was significant. The brackets were in and sheetrock cut out to the bracket.....I put the speaker up to the cutout and it went right through.

When they keep changing suppliers in east jumbumble F*#& every other month and pettle their crap on us its hard to keep up on the website dimensions. That is until one of us gets bent over and screwed and lets them know what the REAL dimensions are....They then proceed to let us know how much they are "sorry" and how much they "care" about us

I didn't want to turn this into another snap bashing thread....but...

None of the Triads matched up size wise. Re-doing the ceiling to accommodate anything else wasn't going to happen. So, since the 700 series is the same size as the 500 series I was "upgraded" to the 700 series, and given a 20% "discount" off the price.

I wasnt happy with the way it was handled but i didnt have much of a choice at that point, trying to finish the project

This stuff is always complicated by the fact that manufacturers tell you hole sizes larger than required, leaving some slop. I suppose they don't think we can measure, just because some of us can't and they can't.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
