Why can't an old fart be an ex-hippie? They're not mutually exclusive, ya know!

Not sure if I fall into old fart or ex hippie, but I have been watching the series.
I am more of a product of the 70's, in the 60's I was still pretty young.
I do remember being in Georgia (have no idea why) when Man walked on the Moon.

Some great footage, and the British music invasion was a good episode.

Because if you are an ex-hippy it typically means you're a farting liberal many of which hide from embarrassment (or should!) :)

Back to topic, sounds interesting! Will check it out,,,

A few of my pals who were hippies ended up going in the opposite direction and are now fine members of society.

How were the 60s different than today in America?

- people don't trust their government
- people act out against "the man"
- America is at war and/or foreign conflict at all times
- beards are back in fashion for men
- I still see women with unshaved underarms
- drugs are everywhere
- music influences many cultures
- a lack of work ethic and/or laziness is abundant

Why bother watching the show...I'm living in it !

Back then, LSD was legal, and it was consumed heavily and changed the culture for a while...

People really didn't lack work ethic (for the most part, but yeah, there are a lot of lazy asses out there), and contrary the younger generation were vocal and against the the war big time.

I don't see that today. The younger generation are spoiled, lazy and TOTALLY apathetic. Too busy looking at their smartphones, sitting on their asses playing their Xboxes, or watching Porn in their mom's basments, or too lazy to demonstrate against some of the stuff going down today---it's pathetic.

The Sixties were a time of change and an explosion of music and art. Today we have Beyonce' and Miley Cyrus & Maclemore. There is little or no musicianship today, music for the most part SUCKS!

We (yeah, I'll include myself), should have been out in the streets protesting in the streets over the war in Iraq & Afghanistan... along with a lot of other stuff going on (like hdmi!!!).

You kind of had to have been there to experience what I'm talking about... Politically and culturally it was a crazy, exciting, explosive time, but now we have backslid. The baby bomers (myself included) have given up on the dream of changing society, and go about our lives like our parents did. We failed for the most part.

Big money Corporations control everything including our political talking heads.
News programs are just entertainment shows and are skewed to either the Liberal side or the Right winger side. There is more truth in the news from Jon Stewart and Corbet than the news channels!

Like the WHO song goes... meet the new boss - same as the old boss...

Now that the police are aquiring those big armored vehicles left over from Iraq, it's like a police state is beginning... Did you see all of the snipers and crap at Fergusen? They were taunting those guys to riot. The cops love the action!

We're still polluting the planet, driving gas guzzlers, not taking care of the sick, poor, elderly and crazies like our society should----instead spending trillions on wars we don't need, racism is back and increasing, consumerism and materialism (he who dies with the most toys wins)--- the 60's offered a brief glimpse of hope - but failed.

All that being said, it is an interesting time to look back on.

But, yeah Tweeter, I get what you are saying. My son is 25, and he and his buddies remind me a little of the guys back then. But it is sooooooooo much different. My son and his kids often say they wish they could be back in the sixties... They have gone through their hip hop and rap phase, but have come to prefer stuff like Creedence Clearwater, Dylan, Cream, Doors, Zep and the Beatles over todays music.
