The question I have is.....Why are all of these guys in such a rush to get to Mars?  It seems like in the last 4-5 years all of these guys with unlimited bank accounts want to go to Mars.  Why not just take a really sweet cruise?

Makes me wonder if they know something that we don't.

Google is doing it..In fact, Google even has a Google/mars

Virgin is doing it.

Amazon is in...

What's the deal? Is it because they've got so much money that they don't know what to do with it? Or is it something else?

There's no way all of these guys are "space" lovers and just want to piss away billions of dollars as a hobby.   I could have a trillion dollars, I'd never think...I want to go to Mars.

Maybe they are sick of the people here on Earth. And desperately want to get away from them all.
I can sympathize with that.

I’m not sure that he still needs Tesla to accomplish that goal. He needed Tesla to get to a point in battery tech. Now he has the Powerwall battery for home power. That probably will do more powering a colony

1) the powerwall & that battery for the grid in Australia is Tesla.
2) I think the battery still needs a lot of improvement for Mars. Like I said the lighter the easier to send to Mars and life support could need to work off the battery for days due to sandstorms. Plus don't forget Mars and Earth both revolve around the sun and not at the same speed. Earth and Mars have a 1 month window roughly every two years where the trip makes sense. So if you send someone to Mars either they leave to come back in a few days or they are stuck there for 2+years and are gone fore nearly 3 years (the time to get there wait for the next window and come back)

His trick worked you (and most people) are too busy looking at Tesla as a car company when it is really a battery company. Almost the same way for "printer" companies it is not about the printers but the ink

1) I don't think any of them have said THEY want to go to Mars.

2) Musk started space x in 2002 so a lot longer then 4-5 years

3) don't forget that we are probably a decade away from sending someone on a trip to Mars and a lot farther away from a real colony and people moving permanently to Mars.

so I don't think we need a conspiracy theory about what they might know (but not telling us) about the future

If Musk is to be believed his justification is that if we live on two planets the survival of the species is greatly increased. Which I can't disagree with

But I think it is most similar to Why did the King of Spain want to pay for Christopher Columbus' trip? why did Portugal, France, England.... want to send people to the new world?

he who gets there first and stakes out the best claims might end up getting the best return. It is hard to become king here on Earth but the companies that make it to Mars will have total control over the people that live there.

It’s still overinflated and makes no sense. Based on their numbers, if Tesla is worth $100 billion, ford should be worth more than Google.

NPR had a segment the other day on all the fund managers that are still shorting the stock. Lots of people are still saying it’s going to crash, they just don’t know when.

The last time it “ crashed” it dropped to $180 and now 6 or 7 months later it’s over $500, in fact it’s @ $570

Tesla isn’t just a car company it’s a sick ass tech company that uses cars as a delivery model.
If you haven’t driven one, i highly recommend that you do. They are crazy cool. It’s incredibly different from anything else.

Yeah, which should really concern investors. Musk doesn’t really care what happens to Tesla. He wants to get to Mars.

Btw, it’s also the most shorted car stock there is. Lots of people are saying it shouldn’t be as high as it is based on the actual earnings.

Since when did the stock market make any sense? A company can make record profits and their stock goes down because some nitwit thought they would make more.

Stock values are driven by this insanity.

As far as Tesla goes - there have been doomsayers since the company started. Yet tesla is stupid because they continue to make cars, set the entire auto industry on their ears, and stubbornly starts to make a profit. It is perplexing - an immigrant creates a company that is wildly successful and rewrites the industry, becoming rich in the process while creating jobs. Yet so many will criticize what is the American Dream come true. I chalk it off to losers who aren't making it and think that criticizing someone that is will somehow excuse their failure. News flash - it doesn't.

Actually most stock prices follow a logical order. The problem is when people get emotional over their purchases, which is what’s going on with Tesla. If you compare ford to Tesla, it’s just unreal at what Tesla is selling at.

You can’t compare ford and Tesla. One is a tech company, one is a car company. Everyone is taking notice, trust me!!!!

I read a good article today that says quite the opposite. Contrary to all the hype, Tesla builds cars. Something like 89.6% of their income is from selling cars. So yeah, you can compare them to Ford. But, the type of company doesn’t even matter for the comparison. Just look at their earnings. Ford makes money.

I can sympathize with that.

There are other ways to be separated from people, but the weather can be a problem. I have friends who bought a condo in a place that's normally a tropical paradise, but on Labor Day, 2019, Hurricane Dorian smashed the crap out of nearly everything. He was there when it passed through at a blistering 6MPH. 185MPH sustained wind, 220MPH gusts. The zone with hurricane force winds was about 90 miles in diameter, so it took roughly 15 hours to come and go, but the leading/training edges added a lot to the timeline of the whole event.

He was out of communication with anyone for over 72 hours- he called his wife as soon as he could use a satellite phone and as some of us suspected he would, he was seen in one of the first CNN videos, helping the Coast Guard.

I think that anyone who thinks people can just go to Mars are idiots. We don't know that much about the place to know how people will survive and that's absolutely impossible without water.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
