I have a job where we just swapped an epson 9700 for a JVC RS50, with each projector, lamps only seem to last 700-900 hours. This guy lives in a condo so the power may be flaky, he watches the thing 5-6 hours every night.

I was just wondering if anyone has had this before where lamps just don't last? The av system is plugged into Panamax, the projector has a power link kit attached to a little UPS that's just below the projector.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

Take your meter and see what voltage is coming out of the ups. I've seen bad units outputting voltages out of the norm.

Is the system set up to allow the lamp to cool before the power goes out for the projector? Can he override this?

Are you replacing with original lamps, from the projector manufacturer?

I've used lamps with packaging that looks identical, including the manufacturer name on the packaging, but based on price, I knew they weren't produced by the projector manufacturer. I would usually get about 1/4 of the rated life out of such lamps.

In my past experience, the only lamps I could count on, were direct from reputable sources, supplying direct from the manufacturer.

+1.

My ex had one of my old projectors... it sat on top of a book case at opposite wall. She kept popping lamps, and
Id always replace time (my treat)... I couldn't figure out why, but then one night I stopped by, and she had the projector on, and the G*DDAMN cat was sleeping next ot it for the warmth blocking the air intake!

Is the projector in close proximity to an AC vent?

JVC had a bad run of lamps. We had 2 blow after 400 hours. JVC covered both under warranty. Give them a call. Its a known problem.

But he had the same issue with the Epson as well. I'd look into the UPS or try to find out if anything the customer is doing could be causing the problem.
