has anyone downloaded the app to see how it looks? they have a demo mode that lets you run the app through its paces. looks very nice. zone grouping is very cool. drag and drop to group and ungroup.

Nuvo's Zone grouping is also drag and drop. I tried to un-group two zones with the new Sonos app and it kept taking me out of the zone grouping menu when I pressed anything. Figured out that you have to press and hold to ungroup. No mention of it anywhere. The new app is definitely less self explanatory than the old one IMHO. Have yet to see the Denon app.

yeah, its aweful. Im used to it now but still would love to have the old app back. i did an upgrade a few weeks ago for a client and needed to upgrade them to the new app. They are older and loved the old app, this new one took a good 15 minutes to teach them.

The new app also cost me sonos at their shore home, they were ready to move forward with doing some stuff down there but they are not comfortable with sonos now. might still get it but im going to really take a look at HEOS as an alternative and possible replacement for my clients that are having a hard time with the app.

App looks nice. No high res. support is disappointing. I also read something saying that initially there would be no NAS support for local music. Those 2 limitations are enough for me to not switch from SONOS. And SONOS still kills everyone when it comes to content availability. The other thing is with 6 or 8 streams of music on your WiFi network, how much do you need to worry about congestion? I guess you could set up a wireless vlan just for heos.

Run them through TC and perhaps that will be more straight forward.

Streaming services at rollout will be Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody and internet radio. Will add XM and many others soon after. They played their version of a Sonos Play 5 and it sounded way better. I was also concerned about it using Wifi but we sell a Pakedge wifi setup with almost every Sonos system.

If you feel like sharing some tips on how you sell the Pakedge either via PM or here I would appreciate the help...

If this is what he is referring too, great company to work with.

for a system that entirely relies on the customers network anything more the 2-3 HEOS devices a commercial grade network will have to be installed. I think this is where HEOS is going to fall flat on their face.

Unless integrators start to insist that they own the network and clients spend the money needed for robust network components.

In my experience as a disty and rep, most jobs are "already pushing their budget", so that likely won't happen soon.

I just walked a large job for a consult on URC TC and stated right up front that we need to own the network, no Telco or EU supplied gear if they want it to work right. Make it part of the budget.

for us that are already owning the network its not a big deal, Personally for us most jobs that have more then 3 sonos components gets a edgemax poe & unifi no questions asked.

What i mean foe HEOS is there will be alot of people that purchase this at the box stores thinking their craptastic router/wifi is fine. I guarantee most of the poor reviews online will be caused by the clients sh!tty network.

I downloaded the demo for my phone and the app is heads and tails better then sonos's new app. I do honestly believe that sonos is shaking a bit, as soon as they get enough sources that my clients are mostly using I plan on jumping ship (im sure alot of you are too). HEOS has tons to offer and native integration. They will also have 4zone rack mount amplifier which is simply a win-win.

Denon has done what sonos has refused todo for years, and thats offer us a truely custom product.

If Denon doesn't screw this up and the wifi issues are low I do honestly believe we have a sonos killer on the horizon!

Lol..

Seriously though, im with mini on this....the app is already better than sonos'. They have rdio and pandora which is what 99% of my clients use anyway.
Its supposed to sound awesome. The only thing left is reliability....if it is, it could be the sonos killer....
