Have a customer who wants an Oppo BluRay player. Not been able to find an authorized wholesaler (Not sold by A**D, Cap**** Sales, Volu****) . I can call them on Monday, but was hoping someone here knows where to buy from. Or is it only direct through Oppo?
Thanks Robert

I talked to someone at Oppo 2 years ago, at that time they required anyone authorized to resell their product be a company for a minimum of 5 years.

And I think you have to buy two at a time. There's a company with a name like 220voltcomponents.com that sells them with and without all-zone and all-area mods. Maybe their prices aren't that bad.

I just faxed back their contract this week. They are very clear on unilateral pricing and no internet sales.

I looked into it a year ago and the margins were so slim it wasn't worth pursuing..

When I first looked into Oppo about five years ago, THEY were the dealers and they really didn't seem to care about our profits. I needed one, they only sold pairs. They didn't have care about getting one sale versus none. Oh yeah, did I say they were nerds who didn't understand business? And... Once they sell it, they've got their money. They're done unless there's a warranty issue.

I might be wrong but I think they quit taking on dealers. They will sell one at a time though... If you are a dealer.

I'm looking into them again. I just got off the phone with them.
They're taking on new dealers, if you call three weeks between application and becoming a dealer "taking on" a dealer. This is like challenging someone to a duel at twenty paces when you're in New York and you know they're in Tasmania... ain't gonna happen soon!
Let me just say that the guy on the phone, and in every one of the few dealings I've ever had with them, they sound, how to say it... supremely confident that they are needed. Not pompously so, just matter-of-fact "I don't care if you buy from us" kind of confident. When I first talked with them several years ago it felt like their customers just got in the way of their day. I didn't feel unwelcome today... just like it didn't matter.
In this case, unless my client said "we really want an Oppo piece," or I wanted to supply the hottest top-end product, I'm not going to wait. I sure don't have three weeks to delay two system updates for a small discount!

I'm betting that they are much more willing to talk to us now. With the quantum shift to downloadable/streamable content now the demand for their product must certainly be waning although they support many of the various services. I've installed several systems in the last six months that had no optical media player of any type, it just seems like the technology is on the way out.
We have been specifying them for years and just directing clients to order from their website directly. While not an ideal setup, it has actually worked quite well for us. I usually make sure the client is present during unboxing, as their packaging is quite impressive.

Just tell them you want to re-badge it, jack up the price and not change anything else.

TIA Sorry I didn't see this before..... Yes, you can buy singles Correct, not much margin The process was not much different from any other direct account The big question is do you want to be the guy that moves $100 Blu ray players and apple Tvs, or would you like to add a flagship line to your offerings?
