Walked a home today, the usual builder wired the home wrong, most of it I can take care of with sonos/total control but the main living room area has me stumped. He is insisting on going with a soundbar but the TV location only has one speaker terminal for the center channel, the other L&R channels are wired in really odd locations. Everything is home run to a small closet halfway down the condo so rewiring is next to impossible without extensive damage to their brand new condo. (no basement or attic)
In the TV location there is a 16/2 for center channel, 1 HDMI and a coax cable, unfortunately there is no cat5.
Any ideas on how to get the L&R channel over to the TV using the coax cable? thinking this will need local amplification.
Soundbar/surrounds will be James

No, Not going to happen. As a last resort maybe, but the rears will be in-walls. could probably swing it but there is no way to hardwire the playbar & connect amp to be able to use in-walls as rears..
They also really liked the idea of a custom soundbar

I know you don't like Snap, but you could use one of their 3 channel amps placed behind the TV and use the coax to feed it. Not sure who else makes a small 3 channel amp.

use two of these: [Link: mcmelectronics.com]to convert the front preout left/right connections of an AV receiver from analog to digital coax, then from digital coax back to analog at the TV -use a 2 channel amplifier at the TV. such as: [Link: snapav.com]use an IR over HDMI adapter to get IR to the TV and 2 channel amp, or use the MRX4IR adapter if using Total Control. edit: forgot about the 16/2. you could use that for IR.

Builders mess. I'd open the walls put the wires I need. Then put the equipment I want in
Next time maybe the stupid builder will do it right

This piece from Atlantic Technology works well: [Link: atlantictechnology.com]Sends L and R wirelessly. I've used it on subs with success. Use a local amp or Atlantic makes a similar piece with an amp built in for less clutter behind the display. It's only 30w/ch though. Still, if that's enough it's very small. Craig

They also really liked the idea of a custom soundbar Wait, you have power at the TV? Just get a connect (not the one with the amp). set up the connect in a nearby area, and get a "bridge" and plug that into your router switch... Maybe I'm missing something? (just had a beer).

Next time maybe the stupid builder will do it right +1 Drywall is cheap and easy to fix. This is not youre mistake and if the client really wants that James soundbar then someone needs to pay to get this fixed, otherwise you start cobbling together some weird science project that when it has issues everyone will point fingers at you. Btw you should speak to the builder about hiring you to do his prewires as it is obviously more difficult than he realizes and is above his pay grade. I have a client that is getting ready to open up his brand new basement ceiling because he changed his mind about the tv location. Not my problem, but I am going to do what it takes, to do it right.

How weird are the other locations? Too far away or not symmetrical? I would do a James center and matching L/R speakers or look at something similar.

How much room do you have behind the TV?

Steer clear of those Snap 3 channel amps, the output is very underwhelming.
