I am trying to dispell or determine the real scoop of what I have been told. I am considering a Denon 3805 or a Yamaha Rx 2400 reciever. I was told that the Denon could route HDTV (1080 or whatever) thought the reciever switched without an change to the signal. I was told that the Yamaha could only route 480 and thus is would convert it to 480 and then the display device could up convert it and thus not as good as the unconverted method of the Denon. Is the the case. Also, could anyone with experience with both recievers give me some feedback on them and a recommendation and why. Also any other options that people think are better in the $1000 street price range.

Yamaha has 60Mhz bandwidth across the Componant level switching...

More than enought to pass 1080i and even 720p

Look at the Integra 6.x and Marantz SR7400 as well.

I have installed both the Marantz 7400 and the RXV2400 in addition to the RXV1400. Both Yamaha pieces, in my opinion sound better. I did virtualy identical systems in a condo complex with changes in recievers and DVD players. The Yahama was better IMHO.

Its all personal Preferece when it comes to how amplifers sound. You would be doing yourself a diservice to completely ignore the Marantz and Integra products. Yamaha definatly has superior DSP processing if thats what your into (I'm not, but I have a Yamaha at home right now... Go figure) and Marantz and Integra are more spec based... Not nearly as many surround modes....

I have used the AVR3805 quite a bit, and am a big fan. It upconverts everything, is easy to use, and frankly kicks ass for sound. I haven't used the Marantz and only a couple Yammy models, but I have had alot of good feed back on the Denon. Just my 2 penny's. Have a great day.

I own the Denon 3805. Fantastic receiver! I owned Onkyo prior to the Denon and I think the Denon sounds much better. But that's my personal opinion.

Can't speak for the Yamahas but I understand from several forums which I frequent that the Yamaha can sound a bit bright with certain speakers.

I use the Dennon and the Yamaha on a regular basis and I like them both. They are both a significant improvement over pervious medels. I haven't had any problem passing 1080i on either receiver.

The Dennon 3805 has one small caveat to it's up-conversion that doesn't seem to trouble the Yamaha RX-V2400. If you want to up-convert a VCR to component, you will have Copyguard issues. Almost any production video tape will not play without some sort of corrective device. Usually, I just stick to composite video for the VCR. I realize that VCRs are less and less popular, but people still want me to hook them up to play their collection of tapes.

One other problem with the Dennon is that the tuner doesn't seem to be as sensitive. In one house I installed four theaters, three with the Dennon, and one with the Yamaha. Although the Yamahas cost significantly less, they blew the Dennons away for FM reception. This particular client enjoys listening to FM, so I might end up replacing the three receivers with Yamahas.

An advantage to the Dennon, however, is the extra A/V input on the back and the extra set of component inputs. I also prefer the Dennon's zone 2 controls.

I think both sound good for the money, especially better than a Sony ES.

I would wait for the Yamaha 2500 as it has audio delay. There have been lots of cases where displays delay the video so video and audio are out of sync. (There are other brands and models with audio delay, too.)

The Yamahas will indeed pass 1080i. The deal about 480 is that they upconvert NTSC or S-Video to 480i, not 480p, but they will pass the other component signals.

But, of course, the 2500 may be some time away. The 2400s have been massively backordered for weeks, and I have no clue when the 2500s will be arriving.

i saw the 2500 at CEDIA. It is really cool ad worth waiting for. It as a nice new GUI that is uses that the 2400 did not and also has the same Z1 amplifier system. I am waiting. Yamaha says it will be out in October.
