This isn't an Apple issue. This is an idiot end user issue.

"Users who have a passcode on their device appear to be able to unlock it after the hacker has sent them the message demanding payment, but those who had not set a passcode are unable to."

ridiculous statement! i agree end users who have not enabled security on their device should consider doing so, but not an apple issue? that makes no sense!

How is it Apple's fault that someone used the same password for iCloud that was used and stolen from somewhere else? You're really stretching to try and put the blame on apple.

its not apples fault that hackers were able to get into their proprietary hosted phone security solution and lock people out of their phones? whether you have a password or not, that is apples fault!!!!

i absolutely do not hate apple. i am very apple centric. ipads, minis, touches, wife's iphone 5s, even a macbook pro. we have it all. its mostly the users i dont like LOL!

no seriously, i do not like how strong of a hand they use when ruling the kingdom. things you can do with android and not with apple because of goofy rules they have with app store. no wifi analyzer. cant directly join sonos network like with android, etc. I also do not like where they have taken iOS recently.

i DO NOT LIKE MAC OS. I dont think i will ever own a mac to use myself. my wife barely uses the one i bought for the family. we are PC users. Could we learn and embrace it? yes, we do not want to. PC works great for us and we have 20 years invested!

the true reason i dont have an iphone is because of the phone. you get what they give you. you wait and hope usable features will arrive only to see minute updates to the exact same phones. I have always told my friends and family, I wont even consider an iphone until they have a 5" screen! I mean not even consider it.

I still hate that "typing in a username and password" is considered "hacking." The hacking part comes way before that, when the info is acquired in the first place.

Apple was not hacked. Take off your "Google is the best" glasses for a second. The passwords were stolen from somewhere else. These people used the same passwords so someone else was able to log in to their iCloud account.

By your definition, Bank of America has lax security because I am able to log into my account every day. Watch out Gmail, I'm a hacker. I plan on logging into Gmail today with my password.
