Ola to all in AV Land,

I've got this anal retentave, drive you crazy, to the point of slitting your wrists customer that has an issue with his BRAND FRIKEN NEW Denon receiver. The "MULTI" light is on his front display and wont go off, so he swears that it is refurb. or defective.

I have gone through the remote and turned the Zone 2 and 3 off, but the damn light wont go off. There is nothing hooked up to the MultiZone outs, so I am lost. Any help while I have a bit of sanity left, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have not done many Denon's as of late, but the last couple I have played with either had Multi or record out ( I believe ). The Denon only toggled between the 2 displays, and I am pretty sure they were brand new out of the box products.

I do not recall model numbers, but the display bothered me as well. It was a little confusing at first. I would say it is a bad design over a refurbished receiver, the receiver sounded great for as receiver though.
When good enough is not good enough.

I agree, it sounds great, but I am going to call Denon today and ask them whats up. If I get a straight answer, I will post it. Thanks.

I have the Denon 3805 and mine displays "Multi" all the time as well. I think I remember reading something about it in the manual. If I find it I will psot it here.

Have you tried switching the amp configuration to 7ch surround? I seem to remember there is an option to have the amp in 5ch + stereo Zone 2, which may flag up the 'multi' display when it's selected.

No. I checked I changed every setting possible and the "Multi" light stays lit no matter what I change. I thought I read something about it but I can't find it now.

Time for a support email/phone call to Denon to find out what's going on.

3805, 4802, whatever, that’s just the way they are. I do not believe that you can disable that light on any of the models, I think it’s just a show off flag that indicates that the receiver is multi zone capable.

There are to lights "MULTI" & "REC OUT"

One of the two will always be lit up. It lets you know what output you are changing.

Here's what Denon has to say about the "MULTI" & "REC OUT" lights.

Dear Mitch,

There is no way to eliminate this light. The unit will remain in one of two status( Rec or Multi). Depending which state was last used. If you press the "zone 2/ 3/ rec select " button and then turn the function dial you will notice the unit switch between multi and rec function lighting up. When this mode is disengaged or if the unit is turned off and then turned on it will display the last function used ( Rec or Multi). Even a hard reset of the stereo, where all user presets are erased the stereo will default to the multi function being lit up, "This Is Normal". Information on these modes can be found on page 68 for the rec function and page 71 for the multi function.

Thank you,
Ali Danesh
