For those that all they see is cars going in a circle im sorry. I know what it takes to put those cars out there (part of a pit crew). I see the chassis and power train, I see what the car is actually doing buy watching the line, body roll, lift, drop. I see the brake rotors glowing through the wheels. It takes a lot to put those cars out thee and hope it dosent come unglued.
If you have never stood next to the fence when 43 cars with open headers are coming at you, its an experience to behold. You see how on the edge they are 100% of the time.
The same with NHRA, its amazing to see and feel two V8 engines actually change the atmosphere around you as they pass buy. It actually vibrates your bodies inner core.
And if you don't say the first time you ever saw live top fuel launch it didn't scare the shit out of you, your a liar.
No i get it. I grew up on Lake Washington back when the hydroplanes had huge piston airplane engines...Alisons and Rolls Royce engines We called them thunder boats Still gives me goose bumps to think back on those races. The new jet turbine hydros are boring.
"If it keeps up, man will atrophy all his limbs but the push-button finger." Frank Lloyd Wright
When I was nine, I was able to stand on top of the press box and watch the start of a NASCAR stock car race at Texas World Speedway. Richard Petty, AJ Foyt, Bobby Allison, David Pearson, Dale Earnhart, and others. Way back in the day. I was hooked on racing that day. My father and AJFoyt grew up together in Houston. My grandfather and Tony Foyt used to own midget race cars.
I totally agree, if you have never been to a live race, seen, heard, smelled, felt... You can never judge. It, like other life experiences, have to be live to really get it.
It is like going to watch a real golf tournament, amazing! The thunder boats that Stan talked about is another, been there done that!
Living life does not include just viewing from a chair to a box, though, it keeps us in business, and to those who have gone out and done something "live", it keeps them connected to it.
Driving a nascar at the Richard Petty deal is FREAKING crazy cool and fun. A must for everyone that likes speed (but they will NOT let you go as fast as you want lol, you do follow a lead car). Still, worth every penny.

After having done the Richard Petty Driving Experience, now on the bucket list:
Driving a Indy car.
Driving a F1 car.
driving an F1 car is crazy. i don't know if i could do it. have you seen the Top Gear episode where Richard drives the Renualt R25 F1 at silverstone? he can't even getting it going, the tires don't grip, the breaks don't work, the car won't handle...all because he can't maintain proper speeds! even if you don't like F1, this episode is worth watching.

In my case, I did the Petty thing more than once, and you can believe you get a totally different experience the second AND third time around.
Also the new deal is that you not only drive around following the "instructor", you get instruction on drafting AND passing (depends on the session you select though).
It doesn't hurt that the "instructor" knows you either.
We went down pit row hitting it hard, and were in fourth gear before we hit the track.
Second lap we hit 185 in the back stretch at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
