The new Sonos app only works on IOS 6 and up. First gen Ipads (at least the ones I've seen in the past few days) max out at ios 5.1.1.
That means no new Sonos app on them.
We have a number of customers that relegated their old Ipads to "in wall" use when they updated to newer Ipads. Those folks are pretty bummed right now. So are we.

It may have been in this thread, or in one of a hundred articles I've read recently through reddit links: Apple is quietly forcing the demise of the Gen1 iPad; IIRC it's by not making new apps or updates compatible with them.
It has always been expensive to buy Apple products, and nobody expected them to kill off their early products, but in light of the fact that they want to force you to use the latest, it shouldn't be a surprise that they will eat their own!

I ran into this last week. Someone said that along with Apple stopping support of the old ipads, they force app developers to make apps only compatible back to a certain point. I guess games running only on the higher res ipads isnt enough to push new sales.
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.
Apple plans for obsolescence, they always have. With new releases of iOS they deprecate older libraries and exclude older devices. I have a 2007 Macbook that can't have it's OS updated beyond OS 10.6. That's just the way it is.
If you don't update when it prompts you, you should be able to continue to use the old version, eh?
FWIW, I just updated a system with the CR200 Sonos controller and the hardware is up to date, with the controller still functioning with the blue style interface.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
It works great until you update your sonos hardware. So, don't update your hardware, don't add new pieces of sonos equipment. Don't let any other users of your system hit the update the system. Don't call sonos for technical assistance.
Once the new firmware is on your sonos hardware, the old app will no longer work and the new app will not run on first gen iPads.

How many damn generations of iPhones are there now? I think I'll wait for the iPhone 23!

First gen iPad running iOS 5.1.1 with SONOS 4.3 is working quite fine. Hardware Version: 1.1.16.4-1 on Connect Hardware Version: 1.16.3.1-1 on Connect Amp
