This seems way overkill for the request I received from a client. But it is exactly what they asked for. Outdoor tv to be mounted on an articulating mount with roughly 150 degrees of left-right swivel ability. There is a stucco pillar that is about 20" wide that they would like the tv to be able to rest against when not in use. They do not want anything mounted to the pillar. They do not want a ceiling mount because to get the amount of pivot they want, it would need to be mounted a considerable distance away from the pillar and would be an eye sore.

So they asked if there were some kind of track we could use that would allow a ceiling mounting location, allow the home position to be close to the pillar and allow the tv to be articulated either direction about 75 degrees. The track would only need to be 2-3 feet long.

Trak-kit meets their requirements. I already know they will piss their pants at the price. "Starting at $3000" is a lot. Is there another of the shelf solution out there? I already have some custom ideas spinning in my head. Cable management is the tricky bit. The track and sliding/rolling mechanism is pretty straight forward.

Any thoughts? I imagine when I tell them the price, they will concede to mounting the tv to the pillar. :)

We have a Trak-kit going in at a project this year. 2 TV's...one on either side of the room. They will move to the middle and rotate to different positions so that they can be seen from inside the house or from the deck outside. Should be pretty cool.

Just came across your post and wondered if you found a more affordable solution. I'm looking for an 8ft linear span with additional up and down movement. Not sure how to manage the cables. Any suggestions besides the $3000 trak kit?

No answer, just a comment. Why are we worried and why are clients always pissing pants when they ask for something so far from normal? A mounted tv in this case. Asking for something they have probably never seen. But with a few tooth pics and some tape you can do it cheap right? Quote it, waste little time and move on to jobs with clients that won't piss pants.

Thanks for asking. I have spent the last 3 years searching endlessly for a cheaper product to fit this application. I am exhausted. I just want to get other things done, but I cannot let this go. I will not give up. I will continue to work after hours, weekend after weekend, until I find it. Stay tuned. When I find it, I will share it here in this thread. :)

Agreed. Building something like Trak-Kit from scratch is going to cost more than $3000 and probably suck. If the client wants it they have to pay for it.

We did the installation mentioned in my post from 2014 above. We ended up having to call in a Miami (Florida project) firm to adjust programming at the motors so that we could get it working perfectly.

Client loves it. He uses it every day. Both TV's are moved to the center of the room every day in the Gym side and during the summer it gets used at night for the pool deck. It has been in operation for just over 2 years now and so far we have had to replace 1 HDMI cable and 1 power cord (heavy duty extension cord). I think these were both damaged during initial installation when the TV's started spinning like crazy when we were trying to test Crestron control of the device. Other than that it seems to be solid.

Show them video of it in action first. They'll be wowed. Then say something like "It's expensive, though....I've searched for alternatives for years and these guys are just the only ones making a product like this." I bet they'll bite. Then, they'll tell all their other friends how awesome it is and they'll want it to. Who installs 'em? Yup, you. Win-win.
