Has anyone used a video card DVI output on an HDTV? I want to know if it works and what the picture quality is like.

We just installed a custom built (by us) HTPC driving a 1040HD plasma with the Gyration keyboard/air mouse. It depends on your display more than anything I would guess however. We installed a 2nd PCI (w/vga) card and are driving a 23" LG EDTV also on the same virtual desktop. Works alot like Apple only not as clean. This dude has a lot of options (there is a third screen also). Originally we tried to run the PC through the Key Digital 8 X 3 component video matrix but resolution switching would crash the Winblows everytime. The picture quality of the Winblows desktop (on both the plasma and the LCD) is awesome to answer your question. (actually XP ain't that bad).

I have a Sony 34XBR910 (34" widescreen HDTV) and I started my HTPC with a DVI connection. I found it was much easier to set up and configure using the VGA out into a VGA to Component adapter and then Component into the TV. I have achieved 720p and 1080i resolutions. Pictures look great, and my DVD's have never looked better.

Do you have any problem with overscan (cutting off the edge of the picture) on the TV? We have installed several systems and run into this problem when hooking up using DVI cables.
Also, when using a nVidia card we have had problems with setting the resolution higher than 800X600. Any suggestions?

Make sure your drivers for the nVidia cards are up to date. I had a problem getting a resolution of more than 1024X768 until I installed updated drivers, then I could get the 1280X720 resolution that I needed.

Persoanlly, I like the Audio Authority 9A60 VGA-component convertor [Link: audioauthority.com]Many HD manufacturers have "PC-DVI no workee" disclaimers on the literature and manuals.
