If this is not allowed here, please let me know or remove...

My girlfriend is an elementary school teacher. She is heading a committee that is putting together all of their field day festivities this year. One of the things that the committee wants to do is provide all the kids in the school with a Field Day t-shirt. They have reached out for corporate sponsors and believed they had one. After designing the shirt and just waiting on final approval, they pulled out unfortunately. It has been a dead end trying to find another sponsor.

A little more back story. The committee reached out to the PTO, who refused to provide shirts because they will be selling shirts at a rather inflated rate. The school is predominately made up of kids from less then wealthy families, if you know what I mean (lots of free lunches). The families will not buy their kids shirts. The end result is very few kids will have shirts. The committee wants to avoid this as the kids are rather smart and know what is going on, and know they don't have a shirt simply because they are poor or their parents just wouldn't spring for one.

It goes deeper. The PTO has essentially called for an all out war on this issue. They made it clear that if we use the school's logo, which they claim to own the rights to, that they will sue. Seriously. All we are trying to do is get the kids some shirts. As it is, my girlfriend spends probably a good couple of thousands of dollars per year on supplies that the PTO does not help out with. They are utterly useless, agenda driven housewives that have nothing better to do.

So, I am hoping some of the family here at RC, IP, and ESI may be willing to help. If you would like to donate to the cause, please let me know and I will post details on where to send some money to help these kids out. IF we don't reach the goal to where the money will not be going to shirts, we will do one of two things. We work with a animal rescue group that works predominantly with dogs. We will donate money to the rescue group if we don't reach the goal for the shirts. Alternatively, we can also donate the money to RC, IP, or ESI to help with operating costs (please let us know which you'd prefer as the fallback).

I hope this doesn't come across as spam, as I am reaching out to what feels like my family for help. No hard feelings if you cannot, or do not wish to contribute. I am going to post this on IP and ESI as well, so sorry for the redundant posts. In advance, I'd like to thank anyone and everyone that does decide to help.

Why not make a new logo? Simple text with the school name and a smiley face or a star. At that point it's just a bunch of private citizens giving free shirts to other private citizens who just happen to all wear them on the same day to school.

But let me guess...they have a dress code and they all get suspended for wearing the circumvention shirt.

Well I wasn't sure if I should create a new paypal just for this, or just use my own verified account and just write a check off of that account.

As far as how much, well I am hoping to get enough to bring the total cost down to where a local business is more comfortable sponsoring. We will need roughly 700 shirts. I calculate we will be north of $4000. We do not yet have final numbers with a printer. That is next on the list. I have worked with a couple local guys, and they will probably be too expensive. My sister and brother-in-law run a soccer camp, and they get a decent deal on shirts, so we were basing our numbers off what they pay. I asked him for their information so I can get a quote.

As far as the design, this is a rough draft that I put together of what they envision.

The school mascot/logo is a frog, so in order to create no more stress with the PTO, they decided to go with this design which everyone seems to like.

Any chance you could put "I go to XXXXXXXXXXX School and they won't even buy us a crummy T-Shirt" on them?

Are they doing anything like car washes or fundraisers?

Ditch the quotation marks. Is this the logo or motto of the school? The quotation marks are appropriate any time you quote someone else. If this is what YOU or YOUR SCHOOL is saying, you just write it.

You can always look for an example of good grammar on a cereal box, of all things! On the Wheaties box, it says

The Breakfast of Champions

not

"The Breakfast of Champions"
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Have you ever thought about NOT saying what your crazy brain tells you to say? Try it out some time.

One thing i thought about with the PTO shirts is whether or not its a fund raiser of some sort. If it is a fund raiser and if the money benefits the school or the children (as opposed to coffee money for the soccer moms) i would think twice about stepping on their toes here. Maybe use this as a reason to change school policy like "we want every child to have a field trip shirt for safety and school pride so lets build it into student fees this year".

I remember my school sold school tshirts. You could wear them in gym class. Gym class was where you could tell the poor kids from the rich kids because half the class had white t-shirts on and the other half had these really cool school shirts. No one ever asked what the money went for. I assume its for the kids but it could have been for a coffee maker in the teachers lounge.

Setup an account here: http://www.youcaring.com/ I used this to help with Sadie's medical bills when i pulled her from animal control. Money was sent directly to my paypal account.

This way the donated money is being routed through youcaring so it doesn't look like income. It also gives you a "have they reached their goal" page so people know how much more there is to go.

Actually, he does have a point... the quotes are unneeded. Unless it's a quote of someone else, then one might think they're scare quotes, which you definitely don't want.

Imagine if Wheaties had done

The breakfast of "champions"

Or, "Breakfast" of Champions. Probably beer.
