I don't blame them, they're just pawns for the democrats. Who last time I looked own a shit load of giant companies and are just as rich as the guys on the other side of the isle.

It's true that both sides work for the rich but that doesn't make them equal by any stretch of the imagination.

If you grow up in a household where both parents molest you...you might as well vote for the one who gives you ice cream on the weekends. Can you imagine a world where both parents molest you and you get no ice cream at all? The republicans can.

So you agree that the dems are still pieces of crap but at least they're buying the votes versus the republicans that aren't. :)

Damn Mac, did a republican steal your ice cream cone or something?

You are free to pay your employees whatever you want, go ahead and give them all a raise and see how it works for you. IF your line of thinking is correct, you'll have more productive employees by just giving them a raise.

It's the part about the government forcing an arbitrary number on private business that is the problem.

Hard to reason with such cartoon logic such as 'minimum wage hurts poor people.'

That goes along with 'it won't help poor people' and 'people will always be poor.'

Add to that: 'the democrats are just the same.' Completely detached from reality as the Democratic party supports raising the minimum wage.

But the best are the slippery slope arguments such as 'why stop there, why not $50 or $100 an hour?' I feel like this is a discussion with an AM radio station.

Regardless of whatever any government does there will always be a poor person, you aren't really denying that are you?

They are the same, they're just buying the votes, I know you have to see that too. Not saying the republicans are innocent of doing the same thing but don't pretend that the dems are doing this because they care about the poor, they're doing this because they care about getting reelected.

What the hell is AM radio :P

Every full time American should earn north of $50k. Those households that earn over $70k are making $30k less than they need to have a nice home, put their children through school etc.

$100k of household income (not counting the kids paychecks) is required if you expect families to be able to save and educate their children.

Well, your lack of travel outside urban and high end areas has been exposed. In my immediate area, no homes are available for under $200k. And $200k is just livable. What's considered middle class homes are $400k and up. Go one county over, and good entry level homes start under $100K. A friend of mine that works in IT for the largest co-op utility company in the nation bought a nice 2000 sq ft home there for $120k. One of my clients bought a 5 bedroom lake home with a pool (yeah, in ground) and emasculate landscaping for $500k in that same area.

A county adjoining both of the above mentioned is home to a national home improvement chain and $40k a year is high rolling.

One of the biggest problems in America is diversity. It's a key factor in all of our problems, yet we look for single solutions to them all instead of letting local areas solve their own problems.

Seattle might really need a $15 minimum wage. That's their problem to solve. But what seems clear is that the supporters of that rate haven't considered the impact that the $6 hike will put on employers. $12k per employee per year is a big number to make up. I found it very interesting that the Restauranteur in the PBS interview stated it would probably mean an increase of $25 more to the tab of a family of four visiting his establishment. I have a family of 5. I make more than $15 an hour. Adding $25 to the check, then tip and tax would mean no more going out. I also assume his number of $25 doesn't factor in the increase in his supplies once his vendors raise their salaries too. The fact that the supporters of that increase didn't give any break to tipped positions does suggest they have zero business comprehension.

50 years ago an 18 year old could walk into a factory and stand in the same spot performing his stage of assembly all day. The work was mindless drone work but it was work. Today the options are starbucks or home depot for 1/4 of what the factory jobs pay. Could you get up every morning and go to one of those jobs?

I couldn't get up every day and do an assembly line job without shooting myself. The repetitiveness would drive me insane. I also look at jobs like insulators, dog groomers, and roofers and wonder how they so their jobs day in and day out without eating a bullet. While I don't care for most of the general public, walking around Home Depot moving a few boxes and talking to people seems like the better choice. What's your point?

This reminded me of working retail electronics at circuit city. People with their teeth literally rotting out of their face, coming in to buy(finance) 50" hitachi ultravisions. No. Decisions wont matter.

Of course, it was you job to help them make better decisions, like did they need the 3 year or 5 year ESP? Since they were financing, I'd go with the 5 year to give them piece of mind and protect their investment.
