Yes, one of the best shows IMO.

Fargo is also unbelievably good, Billy Bob Thornton plays his character really good

^^What he said^^

The Americans is a good, compelling show that should have no problem keeping your interest. Plus, it will bring back some memories if you grew up in the 80's, which I did.

Fargo is kick-ass! It's quirky, smart, and damn funny. I went into it not expecting much and was hooked immediately. I'm pretty sure it's only a 10 episode mini-series, which disappoints me a bit, but sounds about right.

Any other actor might play that role really well but BBT plays it real good.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Is Fargo just an entire season that is a remake of the movie? Or is it something more?

It's something more, there are some similarities but a slightly different plot line and outcome, it's entertaining unless your from Drewski's home state lol.

At the start of the TV series it says it's based on a true story.

The movie's main character was William H. Macy as a car salesman. Wow, did he put his miserable face to good use in that movie! And in the movie, the sheriff is about seven months pregnant.

In the series the main character is an insurance salesman. The sheriff's is a man and his wife is pregnant.

But it doesn't say it's based on two true stories, only on one, so we have a bit of an idea how loose "based on" is.

Each episode starts out saying something to the effect of "this is a true story that took place in Minnesota back in 2006". The movie Fargo was released back in 1996, so it's something altogether different.

The similarities lie in the sensibilities of the characters, the deliberate northern accents, and the dry humor. I loved the movie and was hesitant to even tune into a "TV version" of it, but I'm really glad I did. It's really well done and the story line is fantastic.

And yet, Trent, it is probably all fiction. We'll know for sure if it has a second, third, fourth season...

The way I understand it....it's 10 episodes and they're out. If it's a huge success, I'm sure they could find ways spawn it into multiple seasons (it is Hollywood, after all), but I think right now their intent is to tell a specific story within the framework of these 10 episodes and be done with it.

As to the veracity of it, I have no idea. I don't really want to know until I'm done watching all the episodes. Then I'll research it and see what I come up with...
