I originally named this "Yamaha might just be on track! (Rev A)" but decided tweaking the other guys was not worth getting in the way of this info

I saw that thread.

The Yamaha 1500 and 2500 also have the ability to delay audio up to about 400 milliseconds. Voila the solution to all those situations where the image and sound are out of sync because the sound comes out right away but the image is delayed while its signal is processed and turned into an image.

I wonder if
a)different inputs can be delayed different amounts, a probable need,
or
b)different types of signal on the same input can be delayed different amounts, also a probable need (e.g. component 480i, component 720p or 1080i),
or
c)there is some accurate way to KNOW when you have set the proper delay.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Denon also has the delay audio feature from the 2805 up
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

It seems to me that the sound sync problem tends to be a variable one. For instance, I have a customer with a 42" plasma that's connected to a Hughes Directv/Off Air HD receiver.

The Directv stations work just fine as do the off air analogs, but SOME of the off-air digitals suffer from sound/picture sync problems.

It seems like the ultimate solution would be for the video manufacturers to improve the quality of their video processing circuits.

Can this be done? Are the video processing circuits running as fast as they can, and if so, won't ANY delay make the sound and picture out of sync?

Does anybody out there understand the nature of this problem to help us get a handle on it?

All of this implies, too, that the audio and video must both or all go through the A/V receiver. If the delay depends on the type of video signal used, then the video has to go through the A/V receiver so that receiver can figure out what kind of video it is, then apply the correct delay. Again, how does one know when the exactly correct delay has been set? This would seem to be dictated by the display device, so those manufacturers would have to be willing to admit that this problem exists and list the time delays.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

most of my customers never even notice. but I assume that the problem will fix itself as the circuitry gets better. I'm not holding my breath though.
