My old laptop bit the dust after only 3 years. I picked up a macbook pro with 8G ram and 256G SSD. This thing rocks! I don't know why I waited this long. Now with the fun of programming with it. This should be fun!

A not-so-secret secret about MBP's is that they can be upgraded to 16G/ram. The one typing this out is on 16G and it's from 2012. Can the newest ones be up'ed to 16G?

I have the 15" retina that came out before the latest version. I had to buy it about a month before the latest version was released because my lenovo died while out of town at a project.

The 15" retina blows my Lenovo away. The only thing i really miss is the print screen key. I know there is supposed to be some way to do it with the mac keyboard but i cant figure it out. I used to print screen things all day long now i have to use snagit. Also glad its 16:10 instead of 16:9 like every other 15" laptop on the market.

Im using vmware & win7 right now. When/if i get enough free time i am switching to boot camp. Tired of accidentally swiping into mac os or having the dock popup or the top bar drop down.

No, the new models have the ram soldered on the board and can't be upgraded.
But the SSD is so fast that it really doesn't feel like it's lacking ram since the page swaps are so quick.

Shift+Command+4 and you can choose just the portion of the screen you want to capture. Saves a a png to your desktop. I finally looked it up and memorized that one.
Still have a problem remembering "Force Quit" though. Fortunately I rarely have to use that command.

Shift+Command+4 opens Microsoft word for me.

VM/Windows 7

Trust me i have tried half a dozen key combos from various sites around the net. None work.

Also
Shift+command+3. = screen shot saved to desktop
Just used both today.

And "force quit" , option+command+escape, because mail just hangs, will not close?

Congrats on the Mac!

Whats weird is if i have the preferences box opened in windows view both shortcuts work! 3 saves the whole screen, 4 lets me choose what i want to clip. They are saved to the MAC OS desktop.

So this got me thinking about how you may be viewing windows. I have it set to Full Screen. Shorcuts do not work there unless an apple dialog box is visible.

In unity mode shortcuts work. In single window they work but only if you click the mac os desktop first.

Are you using MS Office? Wondering if this bug occurs when Office gets installed.

Maybe thats the issue. Who knows. Wouldn't be the first time that software installation "fixed" something.

Screenshots of my settings.
