If I wanted to quickly do a speed test on client desktop, what would you recommend? Don't want to download an app. Don't want to sign up for toolbars, ads and so on. Just a quick speed test to see how fast their ISP is.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Also with speedtest.net - if you get what seems like an abnormal result, choose a different server. They're not all equal.

DONT use the ISP's as they are always false.

Not always. I use the Cable company speedtest to confirm what speedtest.net tells me, or when using DSL or a different ISP. Always nice to have a second number for comparison.
What you are referring to is throttling. This is where an ISP may be using filtering or traffic shaping on their system and then leave sites like speedtest.net open with no throttling. The problem is that most of the ISPs know about the common speedtest sites and so they leave these sites open with no traffic shaping or filtering. Using an uncommon site will give the most accurate results.
Even better is to use a remote site that is under your control.

As said, wait for it to load fully. There's an ad for something above the speedtest graphic, and it looks like that's the place you choose to do speedtest. Give it a moment and you'll see what I mean.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I use speedtest.net and speedof.me

If I install EERO, I use the app to check the speed from wherever I happen to be, which is one of the reasons I like EERO.

Fusion is my goto. Speedtest too dependent on what server you use.

Fusion tests Jitter as well, which is nice.

I like to use hardware based speed tests that some routers provide. Browser based speed tests depend somewhat on the executing platform. For example, my dated, wired PC realizes much slower speed than my iPad while running the ISP's speed test. And, it's not subtle -- it's about 2:1 on gigabit service.

In my experience Speedof.me tends to show the slowest connection.

I typically only install MikroTik routers. I have a router at my office that it’s sole purpose is for a bandwidth test between customer site and my office.
