Is there an EASY to use software you like for planning out a cabinet/equipment layout?

What do you mean by "a cabinet/equipment"?

Are you talking about drawings for actual cabinets? I am assuming here since you did not say "rack". I am so sick of putting equipment in cabinets. I would love to get my boss to insist on racks no matter what. I have not run across many cabinets that did not have the space for a proper rack.
We are doing one now that is a 7.5' tall built-in cabinet with 3 sections for us to put gear in. It is just this section too...no other cabinetry is even attached to it. It sits in the corner of the theater room and will house all of the DA/DV/theater/automation gear. It is about the same size as a rack. Why not put a rack in there? I am not sure if they (client and/or salesperson) think they are saving money by forgoing a rack for adjustable shelves or what. But the hours involved in managing wires and making it look nice and be serviceable will normally cancel out any $$ savings on the actual rack hardware.
The last one I did was a "lowboy" cabinet that spanned the width of the great room under the windows. Total height was probably 20". What a freaking nightmare attaching power strips, fans, etc. on the back wall, snaking wires between 3 horizontal sections, etc. My back still hurts. 3 CFR racks would have been soooo nice.
Anyhow, are you looking for something that allows you to draw cabinets with equipment in them? We use Visio, and sometimes if you have good enough drawings from the cabinet company, you can import them, but normally we just draw a generic shelving layout. It is more for use as a "build to" drawing or a concept for the client to see.

It is amazing that guys pass up on that kind of easy money. They have gotten more affordable as well. We are strictly Middle Atlantic all the way, but Omni and others are building some low cost free standing racks.
