I replaced an old progressive NAD DVD player (progressive output, probably 10 years old) with an LG last week.

I went to reprogram the URC remote, but first decided to fire up the system and use the factory remote for intial setup.

When I hit the watch DVD macro on the URC, I noticed the new LG turned on. WTF? So, I picked up the URC remote and, lo and behold, the old NAD codes controlled every aspect of the new LG.

Sorry if you guys already knew this. If so, I must have missed the memo.

For those that didn't already know...guessing most don't care.

Carry on.

Any info is appreciated. A forum dedicated to just tips and tricks on a device would be cool.

I didn't try LG codes but I did notice that the UI on an old NAD BDP was the same as LG used, just the NAD had an NAD Logo for the wallpaper

Well I didn't ever sell LG DVD players and by the time I started selling LG BD players a few years ago (and obviously a much different menu GUI bu then), NAD was but a distant memory.

I would imagine you are correct and they are built on an LG platform. I think Lexicon did something sort of similar a few years ago. ;)

I remember when we sold NAD, our rep warned us to stay away from their DVD/BD players. Of course that may have been because he rep'd Integra for us as well and they had a much better player that also happened to cost more. :)

Remember when Lexicon was busted for selling Oppos?
They had fancy Lexicon faceplates and they were commanding big bucks for a $500 Oppo!
It was all over the internet.

I forget the name of the company, but somebody in the audiophile world was selling Pioneer DVD players repackaged in a different chassis with a couple of "value bricks" thrown in.

Stumbled across one on a service call. Kinda laughed when I saw it.

And IIRC, McIntosh was selling repackaged Escient Fireball media players for a while. Escient reliability in a nice looking front panel with a McIntosh price.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

TAW was selling Pioneer DVD players with an SDI card to mate with their "Rock" video processor that had an SDI input. SDI...digital video before HDMI. TAW, a company that went up in flames due to the owner being a complete tool.

Pretty routine really.

Way back, Sherwood was the manufacturer for nearly all Marantz, Yamaha, and Denon receivers.

I doubt that many were aware of it....

They screwed themselves by not concealing anything on the inside that had 'Oppo' on it. Still, it was a pretty crappy thing to do.

There's a place in New Hampshire that sells "their" amps, which are Behringer or Dayton power amps that have had something "done to them", so they do what the seller wants to say they do. The were selling a Behringer A500 for $1000. I don't know what they were doing to them, but they could just as easily found a good $1000 amplifier.
