Out of pure curiosity, I tried the Roomie remote app for iPhone. All of my equipment supports IP control, so I knew I could try it out without having to buy any actual equipment.
It is definitely lacking some features for it to compete with the professional solutions, but there are also some things that I really wish the big players would incorporate. The app includes a great built-in "guide" powered by Rovi. The guide can directly control the DirecTV and even pulls up episode info with cover art, which simply looks beautiful.
Why can a cheap iPhone app have such a great feature but our pro solutions are left behind when it comes to this?

Because the guys who developed the cheap iPhone app put in what they think is necessary and they don't even know we exist so they don't ask any of us.
The Rovi thing could be implemented in any of our remotes if we, or better yet the client, were willing to pay for the software. That's not going to happen unless Rovi decides to become a known name.
