Studiocats1,

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am familiar with those models and have used the smaller 1500VA versions in the past. We would have to bump up to their larger versions that have 20A outlets on the back if I were to add the amps on them. BTW, I have changed to Transtector for business reasons, not product problems with APCs upper end.

I fully understand that UPS systems are not designed to allow you to use your equipment during blackouts. Fluctuations and quick outages are why we install them.

Many of my customers have a hard time with voltage protection because they have been burned by consumer level products and their jump-through-hoops equipment protection. Most lost patience and simply filed an insurance claim.

We too have customers sign warranty statements that include info on surge protection, ups systems and the like, but many seem to have a problem with spending a lot since they do have insurance. I have told many a horror story about strikes and have recieved comments back like "hey, I get newer, updated equipment every few years". It is hard to argue. I educate and let them make the decison.

I charge to deal with the insurance companies so it really doesn't bother me how they go. Sure it is a PIA to have a service call that might not have been necessary but it is their choice.

Thanks,

Randy

Ernie,

Well put. I was in the process of typing my long
winded response when you snuck yours in there!

That is usually what happens to me: someone tells a good little story while I am writing the great american novel.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
