I'm sure y'all know this, I'm not a gamer so I didn't. If you do an update, then it then won't recognize wired or wireless Internet, unplug it from the WALL not the unit itself. The brick power supply still has power and that makes a differance. 30 seconds unplugged from the wall fixed the issue . Cord in wall was hard to get to.

I am confused as well. So the power supply brick needed to be reset? Unplugging power from the back of the xbox will remove all voltage from it. Seriously. I could see that unplugging the brick from the wall for a few seconds would not be enough to completely power cycle the Xbox. Residual voltage might cause issues. But I do not understand how the xbox will not reset properly when you unplug the power cord from the back of it.

And how hard was the power cord to get to? Pics? :) Have a good weekend?

Sorry for the tough read, I agree, it was.
Yes, unplugging it from the Xbox did not do the trick. Two of them in the house. Both were unplugged from Xbox for 10 min, same result. I was finally able to get to the power plugsin the wall, huge cabinet in both rooms. Unplugged for 30 seconds, fixed the problem. After the first one worked, I did the same thing on the other one.
I called one of my coworkers who is a gamer, he told me what to do. I said , that doesn't make sense, he said, trust me it works .

It did! I don't get it either ,

Is the power cord on the back of XBox not removable?
I can see if the brick had capacitors that kept something small powered with trickle current like battery or RAM, but it makes no sense if it's the standard +/- 3.5mm or similar plug.
With a lot of electronics, once you kill the power, manual will ask to press power button or random buttons on remotes to drain residual charge.

Yes, it's removable from the back of the Xbox. I unplugged it from there several times. For several minutes at a time. Pressed power button on the Xbox for 10 seconds, then unplugged. Nothing! Still wouldn't see the Internet .
Like I said, once I unplugged it from the wall for 30 seconds, I worked instantly!

It's working, I'm done with it

So unplug at the back of the unit - 0 voltage to unit - doesn't fix it.

Unplug AC from power transformer - allowing voltage to unit to gradually decrease till 0 - fixed.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.

There's all kinds of 'stuff' in that power supply (and the main unit) to support the instant on modes and the energy saving modes. Also internal surge protection and fan support stuff. It's not just a typical dc power supply.
